Reasons to Foster

• You play an incredibly important role in saving that dog's life. We're a foster-based rescue and rely on foster homes to help dogs to safety and on their way to adoption. 

• You get to enjoy the benefits of having a dog (or dogs!) without the long-term commitment! 

• These grateful dogs will show their appreciation with tail wags, adoring glances, and guaranteed karma points!

• If you are looking to adopt, it's a great way to see what kind of dog might be right for you. Our "Foster to Adopt" program is a wonderful way to be first in line for a dog you're interested in.

How to Get Started
Please fill out the foster application and send it to jill@coppersdream.org. The next step is a short phone chat. Then, Copper's Dream will try to find a dog well-suited to your lifestyle and experience with dogs.

WHAT TO EXPECT...
Support: We are always available by email and phone to answer questions!

Vet Care: Copper's Dream is responsible for all necessary veterinary expenses. Please refer to the foster application and manual for details on our policy. At no time are fosters ever expected to pay for necessary veterinary care themselves.
 
Supplies: We try very hard to provide food, leashes, crates, etc., but we appreciate if you have these supplies on hand as well. 

Time Commitment: We appreciate a one month or longer commitment. However, even if you only have a week to give, that can be a huge help to a dog looking for rescue.  

Dog Matching: We work to match you with a dog that fits your household and lifestyle. We also put out pleas for specific dogs, and alert our fosters of the dogs we are interested in rescuing so they know first who might be available. 

Adoption Events: We hold adoption events every month, so we ask you to make your foster dog available for these events. We work with you to arrange the dog's transportation to and from the event locations, but you are more than welcome to come join us yourself! 

If at any time you decide that you cannot keep the foster dog anymore, we will work with you to find an alternate foster situation, but please note that this can take a week or more (varies depending on dog and foster availability).

What if I want to adopt my foster dog?
Should you become attached, adoption is a possibility! Foster parents have to go through the same basic steps as any prospective adopter, including being screened and approved by our team and paying the required adoption donation.
