Training Policy
Copper's Dream requires that all new dog owners attend a training class with their new pet to ensure that you develop a happy, healthy, and long-lasting relationship. Dogs are amazingly smart animals that can learn what behaviors are expected of them very quickly. At the same time, dogs that are not taught basic commands and manners will not identify with their owners as "pack leaders" and often develop undesirable habits. The training requirement may be waived on a case by case basis for experienced dog owners.
Spay/Neuter Policy
In accordance with our mission to end the euthanasia of adoptable animals, Copper's Dream has a strict policy requiring all our rescue dogs to be spayed or neutered. While we do our best to make sure pets are spayed or neutered before being adopted, if this has not been possible, we make adoptions contingent on the completion of the operation. As a result, if new adopters violate the terms of the adoption contract, we will take actions to reclaim the dog.
Dog Return Policy
Adoption donations are non-refundable, but if you feel that your new dog is not a match for you, you may return the dog to us within one week of the adoption. If it is past one week, we may or may not accept the dog, depending on our available space and will charge an intake fee to cover the costs of rehoming the dog.
Foster
Thank you for your interest in fostering! Copper's Dream relies completely on foster homes--the more fosters we have, the more dogs we can rescue. We greatly appreciate our fosters!
Reasons to Foster
To save a life, of course! And to enjoy the benefits of having a dog (or dogs) without the long-term commitment. Should you become attached, you are more than welcome to adopt your foster dog as long as no propsective adopter has inquired about the animal yet. Foster parents have to go through the same basic steps as any prospective adopter, including being screened and approved by Copper's Dream staff and paying the required adoption donation.
What to Expect
Copper's Dream will be responsible for all necessary veterinary expenses. Please refer to the foster application and manual for details on our policy. At no time are fosters ever expected to pay for veterinary care themselves. However, fosters should be prepared to provide basic nessecities, such as food, leashes, etc. We appreciate a one month or longer commitment, but can make exceptions for shorter term fosters on a case by case basis. If at any time you decide that you cannot keep the foster dog anymore, we will work with you to find an alternate foster situation, but please note that this can take a few weeks.
How to Get Started
Please fill out the foster application below and send it to jennifer@coppersdream.org. The next step is a short phone interview. Then, Copper's Dream will try to find a dog well-suited to your lifestyle and experience with dogs.

Volunteer
Copper's Dream is always in need of more manpower. If you're willing to help us out, please fill out the volunteer application and send it to jennifer@coppersdream.org. Alternately, if you only intend to be a very short term volunteer, you can just contact us and we'll find a spot for you! We can use anyone who is able to design websites, T shirts, logos, and flyers. We also need people to help post ads online for our adoptable dogs, to pass out flyers advertising for foster homes, to host adoption events, and simply drive to pick up and drop off rescue dogs. Thanks for your interest in helping Copper's Dream save more lives!
