Tiberius Fund
The Tiberius Fund's namesake is Tiberius, a beautiful, furry five month old puppy that looked like a stuffed animal when he first arrived in San Francisco from Bakersfield. Unfortunately, little did he or our rescue know, his escape from a high kill shelter did not mean he was out of harm's way just yet. Within a week of entering foster care, Tiberius developed a serious pneumonia that was probably a result of exposure to the Bakersfield shelter environment.
We attempted home treatment for a short period of time, but when doctors warned that Tiberius needed to be connected to an IV line and oxygen tank twenty four hours a day to assist him in his labored breathing, our rescue had to face a difficult decision - Spend the entire rescue budget to save one dog when those funds could be used to save hundreds more?
Not surprisingly, our dog loving directors did not take long to make the call. We couldn't let Tiberius down when he had come so close to being given a second chance at life, even if there was still a ten percent chance Tiberius would die with hospitalization. We are proud and happy to report that after being hospitalized for forty-eight hours, Tiberius had recovered enough strength that his doctors felt he could be safely released to the home of a director.
After another few days of intensive home care, Tiberius was walking and eating again. Now, Tiberius is back to his old adorable, plump self and enjoying his third chance at life in the home of his permanent adopter. However, Tiberius' $1500 vet bill almost entirely depleted the rescue budget. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we raised the $1500 that was spent on Tiberius.
Dozens of sick puppies have continued to eat away at the fund, including Kiwi, diagnosed with Parvo a few days after her rescue, Abby, diagnosed with pneumonia the morning after her rescue, and Sugar Cookie, whose limp on her right front leg was eventually diagnosed as "damaged growth plates" requiring that her leg be amputated.
Please donate to the Tiberius Fund by clicking on the "Donate" at the top of the page and help ensure that our next sick puppy will receive the treatment she or he deserves. Thank you for your generosity!
