COVID-19 & Copper's Dream
A letter from our Board of Directors (March 17, 2020)
COVID 19 – Adoption and Foster Policy Changes
Like many other businesses and organizations during these uncertain times, animal shelters are also greatly impacted. Many have shut their doors to the public and are relying solely on rescues to help keep dogs alive. Copper’s Dream will be taking extra precautions with any in-person interactions, but we feel it is important we try to still continue our rescue work as much as is safely possible. We have made the following temporary changes to our policies and procedures for both fosters and adopters below.
Foster pick-ups will only be at our office location in Los Altos.
Adoption meetings will continue during this time, but with the following changes. If you are a foster and are not comfortable meeting an applicant in person, please let us know and we can make alternate arrangements for adoption meetings.
Please be respectful to everyone’s individual and specific concerns during this time. Of course, if you are not feeling well please do not move forward with meetings or foster pick-up. Practice social distancing when appropriate.
Thank you for your support during these difficult times, and a special thank you to the first-time fosters that have reached out this past week. It is important we continue to keep the rescue moving forward while being as safe as possible, and we thank you for your understanding. Please let us know if you have any concerns or questions.

Foster pick-ups will only be at our office location in Los Altos.
- Pick up times will be staggered to avoid everyone arriving at once (please refer to your pick up email)
- If at all possible, please only have one individual outside the vehicle to get your pup and supplies
- All pick-ups will remain outside the building
- If you would rather not get out of the car at all, please let us know in advance and we can load in your car for you
- If additional supplies are needed during your time of fostering we will have set office hours for pick up, or can leave supplies outside our office with enough notice
Adoption meetings will continue during this time, but with the following changes. If you are a foster and are not comfortable meeting an applicant in person, please let us know and we can make alternate arrangements for adoption meetings.
- All fosters should conduct a phone or video meeting prior to any in-person appointment
- In-person meetings should be a short meet and greet if all concerns/questions were addressed on the phone prior
- Conduct your meetings in outside open space areas, local park, front yard etc
Please be respectful to everyone’s individual and specific concerns during this time. Of course, if you are not feeling well please do not move forward with meetings or foster pick-up. Practice social distancing when appropriate.
