The Adoption Process
1. Fill Out and Submit the Adoption Application
Copper's Dream Rescue generally operates on a first come, first served basis measured from the point at which you submit your application. As a result, it is to your advantage to turn in your application as soon as possible. You may download your application by clicking here. Submit the completed application to jennifer@coppersdream.org. Please note that your application does not have to be faxed or mailed. Sending it by email is the preferred method.
2. Schedule a Meeting with the Foster Family
Typically we review applications within 24 hours of submission. Once your application is approved, you will be given the contact information of the rescue dog's foster family. The first adopter to submit their application for a particular rescue dog will be given priority to adopt, assuming he or she can meet at the earliest time that the foster family can accommodate them. If an adopter cannot meet the rescue dog immediately, and other applicants are able to do so, then it is possible that other applicants will be given priority to adopt.
3. Arrive at the Meeting with a Leash and Collar
If the foster family approves of the adoption at the end of your meeting, you will be allowed to take the dog home with you. As a result, it is best to come prepared with a leash and collar. If you do not bring your own supplies, you may be able to purchase Copper's Dream supplies for a $20 donation ($10 for the leash and $10 for the collar). In cases where a foster family is not comfortable with authorizing an immediate adoption, then additional screening may be necessary. Please direct any concerns or questions you have about the need for additional screening to our directors and not our foster families.
4. Receive Adoption Paperwork and Return Adoption Contract
Within the next business day after your adoption, you will receive your rescue dog's official adoption contract and vaccination/ medical history through email. Please return the adoption contract with your typed name to indicate agreement with Copper's Dream policies. A handwritten signature is not necessary, and the preferred method of returning this adoption contract is via email.
5. Schedule Your Spay Neuter Appointment
If your rescue dog has not been spayed or neutered, your adoption is contingent on the completion of this operation. Detailed instructions will be given to you on how to make your dog's appointment at our primary vet in Mountain View.
