Flint

Picture
Flint is 1-year old Border Collie/Hound mix we rescued from Shasta County. According to his foster he's a super sweet, gentle, and playful boy. He loves fetch, but is working on actually giving the toy up (the video below shows he's mastering that quick!). Flint is an affectionate boy who wants to please. He also knows the command for sit and appears to already be house trained. VIDEO: Flint playing fetch in the garden

Brody

Picture
Brody is a 9-month old older puppy with the calmer personality of a young adult.  He is listed as a Rottweiler mix only because of his beautiful brown and black markings on his legs.  Otherwise, he looks like a medium sized black lab mix at 40 pounds, with a slender frame and narrow head. In the words of his foster: "He's a doll. Truly a sweet dog." He plays gently with the other dog in his temporary foster home and is friendly with everyone he's met. He knows "sit" and "come", and also appears to be fully potty trained. He's also a fan of joining you on porch swings for a little together-time! He purrs when his belly is rubbed, is very affectionate, and loves giving kisses. He also enjoys sleeping by the floor by your bed. Brody rarely barks and has been left alone for several hours free in the house without touching a thing--what a good boy! VIDEOS: Brody learns sit and down, Brody wants breakfast, Happy Brody

Fawn

Picture
Fawn is a very sweet 8-9 month old terrier/shepherd mix we rescued from Delano. She's cute, friendly, and loves people (and cuddling with them!). If you get down on your knees she'll wrap her front legs around you for a big kiss and hug. Fawn is very good with other dogs and has shown to be okay with cats according to shelter volunteers. She's medium size, about 25-30 pounds.

Bonita

Picture
Bonita is a gentle, sweet pup who was returned to the rescue because her adopters divorced and were unable to keep her. Bonita is about 18 months old, and loves going to dog parks, where she gets along with everyone, even the alpha dogs. She's relatively quiet in the home, crate trained, and hasn't had an accident yet. Her foster calls her a "dream" dog who plays incredibly well with her dog and has been a total sweetheart. Her foster buddy helps her get over some initial shyness--and then she's great with everyone, including the kids she's met. While Bonita is shy when first meeting new people, once she is attached to you, she likes to stay close to her new friend! She will make a very loyal companion. Bonita looks a lot like a Bull Terrier in person but the shelter originally labeled her a pit mix. She prefers women and bonded very closely with her previous female guardian. VIDEOS: Bonita I, Bonita 2, Bonita playing with another dog, Bonita playing with another dog II

Pumbaa

Picture
Pumbaa is a 12-week old hound/pit mix puppy we rescued along with his siblings Timon, Simba, Kiara, Kovu, Zazu, and Nala. He's currently being fostered with his brother Timon. We named Pumbaa before he arrived, and as it turns out, he's smaller than his brother, Timon! He's a serious love bug and likes to talk (noises, not barking)-- his foster thinks it's pretty cute! He and Pumbaa sleep through the night together in their crate once they settle down. Like any young puppy, he's working on leash walking, and potty training.

Bandit

Picture
Bandit is a wonderful boy who will surely steal your heart! He is a great family dog, according to his foster. Bandit loves the young kids in his foster home and gladly tolerates all the love, hugs, and squeezes they give him. He's also been left alone in the house, and everything was left in its place-- he was just very happy to see his foster family when they got home. He is house-trained, very well-behaved, sweet, and friendly--the wonderful advantages of being a 4.5-year old Labrador/Rottweiler mix. He sleeps through the night by his foster's bed without incident. At a recent dog park visit he had so much fun playing and chasing ball with the other dogs. He'll be an easy addition to any family. He's had some training and knows "sit", "stay", "come," and "shake" (possibly more). Always up for a game of fetch (he loves ball!), this guy is a lot of fun. At the shelter he's done well with everyone he meets. He's also treat-motivated and eager to please. Bandit's first owners moved away and didn't take him with him...their loss is your gain. VIDEOS: Bandit likes toys, Bandit and a giant bone

Joy

Picture
Joy is a 1.5-year old black Labrador Retriever mix we rescued from Merced. She is a total love--she loves people and other dogs, and is extremely submissive. Joy is treat motivated and will train quickly. She already seems to be potty trained and hasn't had an accident in her temporary foster home.

She also sleeps through the night quietly in her crate--what a good girl! We think she'd make a great running partner since she loves to let those legs loose and it's a good outlet for her energy. VIDEOS: Joy in the yard, Joy and her toys

Hope

Picture
Hope is a 3.5-month old Shepherd mix we rescued from Red Bluff along with her sister Halo. Her foster says she a wonderful dog. She loves to play with other dogs, but may bark a little at first when she first meets them. Like any puppy, she loves to chew on her bones and toys, but hasn't been destructive in her foster home. She is a friendly, loving girl who will give you kisses if you let her. She's a smart pup who will let you know when she needs to go outside to go potty. VIDEO: Hope & Halo

Billy

Picture
Billy is a 1-year old Labrador Retriever mix we're rescued from Merced. He looks to us to have some Rottweiler in him with those adorable brown eyebrows! His foster says, "He is so gentle, sweet, and always in good spirits. He absolutely fawns over any kind of attention, whether it's from people on the street or other dogs in the park. We're calling him a "melter," because if you start to play with him he'll just plop into your lap or lean into you for some love. He has energy to play and run, but he's definitely a mellow dog. He'd be great with any family, and seems to love kids too." VIDEOS: Morning wake up call, Billy playing fetch

Galileo

Picture
Galileo is a 5-month old Australian Cattle Dog mix we rescued from Merced. He looks like he might have some Border Collie in him. His foster family calls him "Leo" for short. He walks well on a leash with a very cute little spring to his step, and if he trots up ahead he will glance back to make sure you're with him. In the words of his foster, "He may be the most affectionate dog that I've ever met and that is no exaggeration. 'Leo likes nothing more than to thoroughly wash the faces of every human (and dog) he encounters. Our 4-yr-old shepherd mix returns the favor." He's sleeping through night in his crate and is doing great with his potty training.

Faith

Picture
Faith is a pretty 10-month of McNab mix we rescued from Red Bluff. She's very good with kids, adults, and other dogs (even alpha ones). She loves affection, giving kisses, and appears to be house trained. With one brown eye and one blue eye, she's got a unique but gorgeous look. At the shelter she did great with the other dogs she's been kenneled with. We named her Faith because despite someone cutting off part of her tail, she is friendly and sweet. VIDEOS: Faith giving little kid kisses, More kisses! Faith playing

Hugo

Picture
Hugo is an approximately 1-year old sweetheart pit mix we rescued from Fresno. He's fully house-trained, sleeps through the night, is submissive and great with other dogs, and would make a wonderful family companion. He can adapt his behavior for a little 3-year old child - being gentle and leaving her alone when she eats. He's smart and has already learned the word "run" (so much fun!) - so he could be a great jogging partner. He's a good natured boy who just loves people and getting attention. He must have been trained at some point because he already knows sit, stay, lay down, and roll over! If he meets a pushy dog, he backs down. He's so eager to please and be loved. Hugo adores belly rubs, and ear/neck scratches send him into a sleepy state of bliss. All of these wonderful attributes are wrapped up in such a handsome package.

Tara

Picture
Tara is an 8-month old black Labrador Retriever mix we rescued from Merced. This shelter photo doesn't do her justice!

Tahoe

Picture
Tahoe is a very handsome 2-year old, 50 pound German Shepherd mix we rescued from Merced. Like his lake name-sake, he's a really gorgeous guy. He takes treats softly, rides well in the car, sleeps quietly in his bed at night un-crated, has nice house manners, and seems completely potty trained. Tahoe has been a "perfect gentlemen" around the kids he's met according to his foster. She also says he's an "epic tail wagger" and loves to give kisses. He is athletic, outgoing, and walks well on leash. Tahoe has been left alone in the house un-crated and doesn't appear to have any separation anxiety issues. Tahoe would love to be your adventure buddy for hikes, runs, etc. and has done well on leash jogging with his foster. His foster says he will need daily exercise to be a happy boy.

Tillman

Picture
Tillman is a cute 1-year old Spaniel mix we rescued from Devore. He loves running off leash with other dogs, although gets a bit scared if the big dogs come up and sniff him. He also does great in his crate and walks pretty well on leash. There's a cat in his temporary foster home, and he does great with her (mostly ignoring her). He hasn't had a single accident and doesn't mark, so we think it's safe to say he's potty trained. So far when left alone loose in the house, he leaves everything in its place. He's just content to lay on his bed with a chew toy or treat. Once he trusts you, he's a submissive guy, immediately rolling over on his back when you come up to him. He'll want an active home where he can get daily walks and some off-leash running. On the long ride from the shelter, he was very content to sit and sleep on a pillow next to the drivers. He prefers a quieter setting as he adjusts to life outside the shelter. VIDEO: Tillman enjoying life

Eli

Picture
Eli is a 6-month old Shepherd mix we rescued from Red Bluff. This adorable guy is much cuter in person--for some reason he's just not the most photogenic pup! He would love to sleep in your lap and give you kisses if you'd  let him. In his foster home he's been sleeping quietly in his crate through the night and has a lot of fun playing with the resident dog. When he's in a playful mood he's very interested in the resident cat, and really wants to play with her in good fun. When he's feeling mellow, he just ignores the kitty. This submissive, affectionate guy has shown to do well with other dogs, kids, and adults at our recent adoption event (the same day he was rescued!). At this event he was a bit overwhelmed, but he warmed up with some treats, pets, and being close to you. He's definitely come out of his shell in his foster home, though! Eli is also doing really well with his potty training. VIDEOS: Eli playing, Eli

Apollo

Picture
Apollo is a 2-year old Shepherd/Lab mix we rescued from the Selma shelter He weighs about 50lbs. He's a friendly boy who's got a great big smile. He gets along with dogs of all sizes and loves to play fetch. Shelter volunteers think he'd make for a fantastic playmate in a home with children.

Alfalfa

Picture
Alfalfa is a real darling 6-month old female brindle pit mix puppy we rescued from Devore. Alfalfa is sweet and affectionate and gets along great with all five dogs and two cats in her foster home. She greets everyone she meets with a friendly, happy hello, including surfers coming up from the beach with their big boards. She's been patient and gentle with little kids picking her up and holding her, too. Alfalfa knows the commands "sit," "come," and "no," and is already house trained. Alfalfa's sad story is that she entered the shelter with a sister that looked like her identical twin. Unfortunately, the shelter received the news that Copper's Dream would take both girls too late. Only Alfalfa made it out, but she's feeling very lucky to be alive and in her great foster home, where she has the run of a huge property.

Mac

Picture
Mac is a 1-year old Shepherd mix we're rescuing from Red Bluff. His shelter photo doesn't do him justice! He's a very sweet boy who is happy to sit next to you and put his head in your lap. He is a calm guy who's eager to please. He's done well with the kids he's met and takes treats gently from your ringers. Mac also knows "sit."

Melody

Picture
Melody is a very sweet 1-2 year old Border Collie/Cattle Dog mix we rescued from Red Bluff. She's shown to be friendly and good with all the dogs she meets, and hasn't paid attention to the cats she's encountered. She's great on leash, maneuvers walking busy streets well, and is learning "sit" quickly. She has shown to be great with kids--sitting patiently while up to four children have been petting her at one time--she didn't seem bothered at all. She is a loving, happy girl who will make for a great family member.

Skipper

Picture
Skipper is a 2-year old terrier mix that looks an awful lot like movie-star dog Benji. We rescued Skipper from Red Bluff. He was adopted through our "foster-to-adopt" program where you get a priority 3-day hold on the decision to adopt a dog you've volunteered to foster.

Zazu

Picture
Zazu is a 11-week old hound/pit mix puppy we rescued along with his siblings Simba, Kovu, Kiara and Nala. He is a very sweet, submissive pup who loves to cuddle. His foster says he *loves* kids, of all ages. Zazu sleeps in his crate without a fuss, except to tell you when he needs to go potty. He's doing great with his potty-training -- almost there! He loves other dogs (all sizes) and cats. He wants to chase the cat to play, so he's learning "leave it." He already knows "sit"! VIDEOS: Zazu being held, Zazu

Milo

Picture
Are you looking for an affectionate pup that will absolutely adore you and curl up in your lap if you let him? Milo is a happy-go-lucky 5-month pit mix puppy we rescued from Lake County along with his siblings. He's learning to sit and wait for his food, and he also has learned to nose a bell on the door to let you know he needs to go out to potty. He hasn't had an accident in his foster home in a long time, so his foster says he's pretty much house trained. He will be a very loyal pup to his people and he's more than happy to sleep at your feet, or in your lap. Milo is also a very happy bouncy pup. He loves other dogs and enjoys playing with them, whether in the backyard, the beach, or the dog park. He's a fan of fetch, but it's more of free-for-all-fetch...he'll bring you back the toy that catches his fancy (it's very cute!). Milo can be a little shy in new situations, but once he's had a chance to take it all in he's fine. At a recent dog park outing he sat with a little 2-year old boy and was very sweet and gentle with him (even when the child pulled his tail). He's a good listener and is learning basic commands in his foster home. VIDEOS: The best toys in life are free!, Milo & Monty sharing a chew, Milo, Monty, and Molly

Nala

Picture
Nala is a 11-week old hound/pit mix puppy we rescued along with her siblings Kiara, Kovu, Zazu, and Simba. She is being fostered with her brother, Simba, and is smaller than him, and a bit more shy. Both pups are doing great with the kids in their foster home (ages 3 & 11). She's affectionate and loves to play ball (and sort of brings it back to you!).  She loves to give kisses and doesn't nip. She listens pretty well when told to stop doing something (e.g., "don't chew on the Christmas tree!"). She's met another puppy of a similar age and did great with him--showing no toy or food aggression.

Angus

Picture
Angus is a 1-year old Black Lab mix we rescued from Red Bluff. He's 57 pounds of goofy, super sweet puppy. Angus is a sweet dog who loves to be around people and other dogs. He's pretty much potty trained and has a moderate energy level, according to his foster. He loves to play (especially fetch), but also likes to cuddle when given the chance. VIDEO: Angus playing fetch

Franny

Picture
Franny is an 8-month old hound mix we rescued from the Selma Shelter. She's got a gorgeous red & white coat and is very sweet and lovable. Her tail is always wagging! Her foster says she's very well-behaved and clearly knows "sit" already.

She also hasn't had an accident in the house yet, and has already found a "pee spot" outside. She's a very trainable girl. She came to shelter with her litter of puppies...they found rescue and we didn't want to leave her behind. Shelter volunteers say this very affectionate girl will make a great family pet.

Ben

Picture
Ben is a sweet, gentle 1-year old Shepherd mix we rescued from Red Bluff. He does well with all the dogs and people he meets, and is getting along great with the kids in his foster home. His new buddy is a 5-pound chihuahua who he loves to play with, and despite the size difference it all works out! He seems to be potty trained is doing pretty well on leash.

He is well behaved in house so far and only goes after his toys. He's a got a great smiling face and an outgoing personality. Ben is listed as a shepherd mix by the shelter but it is possible he may also be part Queensland heeler and/or pit.

Cole

Picture
Cole is a 9-month old Labrador Retriever mix we rescued from Red Bluff. He was kennel mates with Ben, who we're also rescuing, and really enjoys playing and running with him. He weighs 42 lbs, is friendly, responsive, loves attention, and is treat-motivated. Shelter volunteers think he'd do well with a doggy companion to boost his confidence.

At our recent adoption event he was very mellow and polite with everyone he met (excited puppy, bigger dog, adults, kids). He has a very sweet way about him, but the big adoption event was a little overwhelming for him (he was just rescued that morning though, so already a long day for this guy!). VIDEO: Cole's first day

Noelle

Picture
Noelle is a 4-month old Labrador Retriever mix puppy we rescued from Kern County. In the words of her foster, "she's a sweet sweet puppy that loves giving kisses, snuggling up and crawling all over you while you sit on the floor. She is really smart, and able to learn from our older dog. She is learning to sit, to come, and is starting to be comfortable on the leash."

Colby

Picture
Colby is a handsome and house-trained 1.5-year old blue merle and tri-color Blue Tick Hound mix we rescued from Merced. He's a mellow, quiet guy who you can trust not to "get into things" in the house. Colby's been very gentle with the kids in his foster home.  He's super friendly to adults and children, and all dogs he's met. He walks great on leash, sleeps in his crate, and hasn't had any accidents so far in the house. His second day out of the shelter he did great at the dog park, impressing everyone with his gorgeous markings. He gives lots of kisses if you let him and enjoys sleeping next to you on the couch. He settles in easily and you can tell he just wants a home of his own. Maybe it's that hound nose of his, but he loves borrowing some of your personal items and collecting them to sleep with--like he's comforted having your scent with him. VIDEO: Colby's first day

Murphy

Picture
Murphy is a sweet, gentle 5-month pit mix puppy we rescued from Lake County along with his siblings. He's a respectful pup who gets along with the cat and dog in his foster home. He's happy to give you kisses if you let him, but he's not mouthy with you like some puppies can be. Murphy knows "sit" and "down" and is doing great with the kids in his foster home. He's also doing great with potty-training and hasn't had an accident inside for a while. He'll sleep on a blanket next to his foster's bed until it's time for bed, then he'll go willingly into his crate for the night. When Murphy isn't enjoying some fun play time, he can be found napping next to you on the couch. He does great at the dog park, but sometimes the bigger dogs will pick on him because he's submissive. He's not so sure about getting in the car, but once he's going he does well, accompanying his foster when she takes the kids to school (he gets out fine on his own). If he doesn't come along, he does fine left alone, either waiting for your return or he curls up for a nap. His foster has noticed that he hardly sheds at all. VIDEOS: Murphy playing, Murphy meets a cat, Murphy finds a toy

Felicity

Picture
Felicity is a friendly and energetic 10-month old Labrador Retriever mix. She weighs about 50 lbs, loves toys, and already knows "sit". She enjoys attention, is outgoing and confident, and will love having an active adopter to go on adventures with.

Auggie

Picture
Auggie is a sweet and affectionate 1-year old Chihuahua/Terrier mix we rescued from Delano. He's about 10 pounds, loves squeaky toys, and rides great in the car. He's quite the happy boy, his tail always wagging. Auggie doesn't chew or dig, and is getting along well with the dog and parrot in his foster home. He does great with all the dogs he meets, doesn't bark, and in the words of his foster, he's "exceptional." Each night he gets into his crate without complaint. VIDEO: Auggie

Kiara

Picture
Kiara is a 10-week old hound/pit mix puppy we're rescuing along with her siblings Kovu, Zazu, Simba and Nala.

Levi

Picture
Levi is a 2-year old, 26-pound Australian Shepherd/Fox Terrier mix we rescued from Red Bluff. Levi is great with other dogs.  When he first meets any new friend, the tip of his tail quivers with excitement. He is good with both alpha and submissive personalities. For a young adult, Levi has a calm personality and a moderate energy level. Levi can be a little shy when first meeting people, but once you show him any affection (he melts when you pet him on the head), he wants to be your best friend and will follow you around the house at a respectful distance. He's got an unusual and gorgeous blue merle coat.

Flynn

Picture
Flynn is a super sweet 9-month old, 48lb mix we rescued from Red Bluff. His shelter paperwork says he's a Shepherd mix, but we think he's a Hound/Terrier mix. He's a mellow, calm guy and has a gentle way about him. He's playful, outgoing, smart, goofy, and loves people. He's very friendly with all the adults and kids he meets. At his first trip to the dog park out of the shelter, he played nicely with all the dogs he met and kept checking back in with his foster. He's also heeling and sitting well, and sleeps through the night in his crate. He was kenneled at the shelter with Forrest, who got rescued by us just recently. So we think it's very fitting that we're giving Forrest's buddy, Flynn, a second chance at life as well. VIDEO: Great Flynn video

Trista

Picture
Trista is a lovable pit/terrier mix we rescued from Devore. The shelter says she's 7-months old, but we think she's probably younger. She loves crawling into your lap for some lovin' and is very sweet. She's loved meeting every dog and person she's come across. Trista can be very playful and rambunctious and like any puppy, and is learning the "rules of the house". She is sleeping all night in her crate and is doing well with house training. During her first dog park visit she had a great time, and held her own with the big dogs. She enjoys her chew toys and isn't toy or treat possessive. She'll give out a bark if she hears something suspicious in the backyard. Trista came to us very underweight, but she's been filling in very nicely! VIDEOS: Trista in the yard, Trista and her chew

Abby

Picture
Abby is a small, super snuggly Boxer mix we rescued from Merced. The shelter lableled her as 7-months old, but by looking at her teeth, she may be more like 1-year. She's a sweet, very submissive, mellow, smaller gal who only weighs about 30 pounds. Some people have commented that she looks to be mixed with Beagle. She is doing well with the cat in her foster home and has shown to be good with kids. She can be shy at first when meeting new dogs, but will warm up to them one-on-one. On her beach outings she stays close, is polite to the wildlife, and has a great time. She walks well on leash, does fine in the car, doesn't jump on people, and knows "sit." She's treat-motivated and eager to please. She adores being near you and will curl up on your lap if you let her. She loves to crawl under blankets. When she meets new people she wags her little tail, sits down, and gets close for pats and rolls over on her back. Abby is a sensitive girl who can be afraid of loud noises and become unsure of herself. She'll need someone who will patiently help her build confidence.

Gus

Picture
Gus is an adorable 9 month old, 35lb. Dachshund/Basset Hound mix pup we rescued from Bakersfield along with brother Stan. Gus is very sweet, loves affection, and does very well around other dogs and children. Gus was a little shy when he first arrived, but now he is quite the confident pup. He handles being at crowded adoption events with a calm, poised demeanor, embarrassing the puppies who cannot help from crying or barking at the commotion. When he meets you, he quickly starts wagging that long tail of his, and eventually his entire long body is wiggling! Gus is a great dog for first time dog owners. VIDEOS: Gus learns "paw", Gus bobbing for kibble, Gus being silly with his bone

Friday

Picture
Friday is a very loving and playful 6-month old Labrador/Shepherd mix we rescued from Shasta County. She's very loving and affectionate with people-- a "true snuggle bug" according to her foster. She really enjoys curling up with you and being near you. This friendly girl tries to say "hello" to whomever she meets, and people are always commenting on her great temperament and cute personality. Friday is potty-trained, knows "sit", and takes treats gently. She loves to play with the two dogs in her foster home and is submissive with them. She has a medium energy level and is quiet and calm indoors. She also doesn't chew on anything she's not supposed to and walks well on leash. Her foster has left her alone a few times, and although she'll cry at first, she calms down after a while. In her first temporary foster home, she did great with the 11-month old baby. Friday will most likely be a medium sized dog when fully grown, about 40 to 50 pounds. VIDEOS: Friday giving little girl kisses, More Friday, More Friday II

Odessa

Picture
Odessa is a very sweet 10-week old mix puppy the Merced shelter labeled as a Lab mix, but we see as a Border Collie mix. She's a confident, curious, playful, and very smart pup. She's a fuzzy gal who loves being near you. Odessa is getting along with the dog in her foster home. She's already mastered ringing the bells on the back door when she needs to go out at her foster home. She understands walking on a leash but doesn't quite heel yet. She is showing interest in playing with balls and will carry one around in her mouth. VIDEO: Odessa playing

Halo

Harley

Picture
Harley is a 3-year old Pug mix we're rescuing from Red Bluff. Shelter volunteers describe him as a "funny, cool little dude".

Monty

Picture
A mellow, gentle, cuddly puppy...that's Monty! Monty is a cuddly 4-month pit mix puppy we rescued from Lake County along with his siblings. He's a total love bug who adores snuggling up on the couch with you and hanging out in your lap for affection. He's pretty mellow for a puppy, but does have playful bursts of energy. He can be shy with new dogs in the beginning, but once he warms up he's all about play-time. At a recent dog park outing he did great with all the people but was a little unsure of all the dogs romping. Instead, he sat with a little 2-year old boy and was very sweet and gentle with him. He's also doing great with potty-training. VIDEOS: Monty & Milo sharing a chew, Milo, Monty, and Molly

Susie

Picture
Susie is a cute, curious, smart 4-month old Black Labrador Retriever mix puppy we rescued from Kern County. She's mesmerized by some TV commercials, is doing well with her house training, and is a great little fetcher. Her fosters think she's a delightful joy. Favorite treats so far include carrots and peanut butter. This shelter photo doesn't do her justice!

Sadie

Picture
Sadie is a 4-month old Black Labrador Retriever mix puppy we rescued from Kern County. This shelter photo doesn't do her justice!

Sasha

Picture

Ritter

Picture
Ritter is an approximately 1-year old handsome Boxer mix we rescued from Devore. He's an excellent fetcher, knows sit, is potty-trained and comfortable with a crate.  He's not needy, but very affectionate in return. When his foster leaves the house, Ritter is left alone and doesn't touch a thing--nothing is every out of place! He's very social and submissive around other dogs and loves playing with them at the dog park. Ritter's energy level adapts to his surroundings--he has energy at the dog park, but at home he's mellow and quiet. He's not a long distance runner when he exercises, more of a sprinter. Then he's perfectly happy munching on a bone or napping for a few hours (he may snore a bit--it's pretty cute). He's good with kids, other people, and is afraid of horses. With cats he'll chase, but only to play.

Lexi

Picture
Sociable, affectionate, loving...Lexi is an approx. 2-year old black and tricolor Queensland Heeler mix we rescued from Devore. Her foster describes her as "delightful" with a very sweet disposition. Her foster says, "She's happy to lay quietly by you and follow you around, or be as playful as you want. She would be great in any situation, around young children or the elderly. She just loves to be close and get that cuddle." Her foster is sure that she was part of a family once. When she arrived to her foster home, she ran up the stairs, and tried to jump right on the bed. She listens well though and when told "No" once, she gets it. She is pretty well trained, comes when you call, knows to sit, stay and stays right with you on a walk.

Fletcher

Picture
Fletcher is a very sweet 4-month old Shepherd/Terrier mix we rescued from Shasta County. Fletcher is a playful and energetic crowd pleaser. Everywhere he goes, people stop to say, "Now there's a cute dog!" He's very polite with other dogs, wants to play with kitties, absolutely loves children and all people, but shows a little too much interest in birds (turkeys, ducks) to live in a home with them. He's an easygoing, unassuming, fun-loving guy that meets each new experience with a wagging tail and a sparkle in his eye. He rides well in the car, walks well on the leash, makes great eye contact (great for training) and is an expert cuddler. He is crate trained and almost 100% potty trained and already knows sit. This guy could easily adapt to city living or a more country bumpkin lifestyle. He'll need plenty of walks, toys and play time to keep him active, engaged and moving in a positive direction, like any adorable pup his age. Fletcher weighs about 22 pounds. VIDEOS: Fletcher, Fletcher II

Hadley

Picture
Hadley is an approximately 1-year old Cocker Spaniel mix we rescued from Merced. She's a sweet girl with a tail that's always wagging. Happy and playful, she'll bring a lot of sunshine to your home! She's also getting along with the dog in her foster home.

Fred

Picture
Fred is a loyal, friendly, cuddly 2-3 year old Bassett Hound/pit mix we rescued from Delano. He might be one of the funniest-looking dogs you'll ever see-- and we mean that in a good way! Fred has the front legs & body of a Bassett. Fred is so friendly and so much fun! He loves outings to the beach or walks where he can meet new people or pups--getting along great with everyone. When you're not home he's content to just hang out with his bones or toys (if outside, won't dig holes or climb fences). When you are home, he loves to cuddle with you on the couch, bed, or by your feet. Fred knows the commands for sit, no, come, and "gotta pee?". When he barks, which is usually just to announce a strange sound outside, he has a Bassett voice. He's just a happy pup, good with other dogs and will wiggle when other pups look at him. Fred is good on leash and like his walks. VIDEOS: Adopt Fred, Fred playing, Fred,Fred at the Beach

Tinker

Picture
Tinker is a very happy 6 month-old Labrador/pit mix we' rescued from Shasta County. She's a friendly girl who loves people (and cuddling with them!), playing, chew toys, and being outside. She's been around kids ages 7-13 in her foster home and has done very well around all of them. One of her favorite things, if you'll let her, is climbing up on the couch with you or joining you in bed for some snuggle time. Tinker has also played well with dogs as small as 3lbs and as big as 90lbs (she might be a little big for the 3lb chihuahua, but tried very hard to be gentle!). Tinker is a smart pup who already knows sit and is working on "down" and "fetch". She's social and people-oriented, and very in-tune with you. She loves her treats and her walks.

Emma

Picture
Emma is a friendly, wonderful 5-month old white and brindle pit mix we rescued from Devore. She's got a very gentle way about her. Just one day out of the shelter she did fabulously at an adoption event, where little kids were continuously petting her. She did great meeting all the new dogs that passed by her. She continues to love kids, dogs, people--everyone she meets. She's got a moderate energy level, and this will mellow out even more as she grows up. She's doing really well with her potty-training in her foster home. Emma's a bit skinny right now, but she'll fill out nicely. Her markings are beautiful. VIDEOS: Emma playing, Emma

Charlie

Picture
Charlie is a gentle, laid-back, fetch-loving, Black Labrador mix weighing in at 84 pounds. He enjoys sunning himself and sleeping on the back porch all day. Each morning, he'll join you wherever you are for a snuggle. For a family looking for a calm, quiet dog that rarely if ever barks, Charlie is your boy! He's also house-broken (bonus!). He is 4 years old, but has the low to moderate energy level of a much older dog. When Charlie is around men, though, he does become very animated and almost puppy like, so we are guessing his past owner was a man to whom Charlie must have bonded very closely. Charlie does great at the local dog park, where he plays well with other dogs and loves fetching with them. Charlie would do best in a home without other dogs as that is what he is accustomed to. VIDEO: Charlie and his toy

Kirby

Picture
Looking for an affectionate, loyal friend with a heart of gold? Kirby is a lovebug who adores people and dogs, and does great with kids. He is always quick to come and say "hello" when you sit down and likes to be in the same room as his people. He takes easily to his crate and will happily sleep there until he hears the rustle of the morning. Like any puppy, he is a big fan of his chew toys. On his adventures to Ft. Funston, he's shown great recall off leash and is good about checking in. While still working on the housebreaking, this smart boy has learned to ring the bells when he wants to go out. Kirby just wants to please. As a 7 month old lab-pit mix puppy, he's still getting used to his gangly limbs and big paws. He's got the purest heart and will make for a loyal companion. VIDEOS: Kirby, Kirby & Lucky playing, Kirby and Jasper playing

Casey

Picture
mix we rescued from Merced. He did great with his first out-of-shelter bath and his coat is now looking great. He's a total love who adores belly scratches, chin rubs, and being near you. Casey is a smart pup and learned sit very quickly and is already moving on to "down." He's very treat-motivated and should be a fun pup to train. A friendly guy, he's done great with the people and dogs he's met. He's got a little white patch on his chest (adorable!). He's a pretty mellow guy, curious and does great on leash. VIDEO: Casey sits

Clara

Picture
Clara is a super sweet, happy, love of a Pug. We can't guarantee she's a purebred, but she looks it. She's about 5-months old and is being rescued from Red Bluff.

Moondoggie

Picture
Moondoggie (or "MD" as his fosters call him) is a friendly 7-month old, 40 lbs. Bull Terrier-Australian Shepherd mix we rescued from Delano. He gets along well with other dogs and everyone he meets gushes about how sweet he is. He's learned to sit for treats, and to sit before getting his meals. He's very open and eager to please. In the words of his foster: "If anyone is looking for a fun, bright, sweet companion they should not pass him up!" He's coming along great with his potty-training, is getting used to riding in the car, and is doing pretty well on leash. Moondoggie can be a little shy at first, but he loves attention and will pay you back with lots of love in return. The shelter volunteers said he was also good with cats. VIDEO: Moondoggie

Gregory

Picture
Ricky is a very cute and submissive 9-10 month old Chihuahua-Terrier mix we rescued from Delano. He's a sweet little guy with a fun personality. He loves people, belly rubs, and playing fetch. Ricky is great off leash, knows his name, and is very in tune with you-- always looking for direction. He loves toys and will drag them or throw them as long as he can. He's great with other dogs (although a bit nervous around the big ones) and would love to have some to play with in his forever home. Ricky also does well in his crate. VIDEOS: Ricky exploring, Ricky plays fetch, Ricky with the cat

Bailey

Picture
Bailey is a 4-month old, 25 lb. Labrador/Cattle Dog mix we rescued from Red Bluff. This shelter photo doesn't do her justice. She's super sweet and likes to sit next to you and snuggle. She's an awesome pup, but she was getting overlooked at the shelter because she spent most of her time outside to keep some distance from the noisy, scary indoor environment.

Jasper

Picture
Jasper is a 7-month old Labrador mix we rescued from Devore. He might also have a little shepherd in him. Jasper is a smart, strong, and athletic boy. He's also a super sweet, fun-loving, water-loving, lap-loving pup. He's house-trained and does well in his crate. He also loves water in all its forms--the beach, baths, from the hose, or even in the shower. Maybe his adopter can take him up to Tahoe and see if he likes it frozen, too! He makes for a great running partner, always staying close off leash or on. He's also doing well with the cat in his foster home, and has been introduced to horses (he didn't show any interest in them). He can keep himself amused with a toy or bone, but he'd love to be your daily jogging or hiking buddy so he can stretch those lanky athletic legs of his. Dog parks are a favorite of his since he can really get going and run flat out and play with other dogs. He's also learned his basic commands quickly (sit, down, "go to bed" and "up"). Jasper will also take advantage of your lap as a pillow if you let him--cuddle time anyone? He will show his affection with kisses if you let him, and he has no problem with you handling his feet, tail, muzzle, etc. He also has no food aggression and will let you take treats and his kibble bowl without issue. He will pile up his toys (and even your socks & underwear) into his bed...like his own personal stash.VIDEO: Jasper and Kirby playing

Sandy

Picture
Sandy is a quiet, gentle 2-year old Shepherd mix we rescued from Delano. She's a sweetheart who loves people--the closer she can get to you, the better! She's all about pets and hugs (who better to greet you when you get home?). She is easy going and very good with other dogs. Sandy doesn't mind cats either! She weighs about 30 pounds.

Max

Picture
Max is an approx. 2-year old Pug/Labrador mix we rescued from Red Bluff. This shelter photo doesn't do him justice. He's very well behaved and has a wonderful personality. Loving and playful, his cute curly tail is always wagging with happiness. He does well with all the dogs he meets on walks and sleeps in a bed in his foster's room at night. Max hasn't had any accidents so far in his foster home, so we think he could be house-trained. He knows the command for sit and is very attentive to you. He'll be grateful if you make him a loved member of your family.

Lucky

Picture
Lucky's name may be obvious, but it's exactly what she is! Lucky is a 30-lb, 5-month old, bright, well-mannered hound mix puppy (the shelter labeled her as a pit mix, but that is often their default), and a last-minute save from Merced. We gave her that name before we even knew the rest of her story: She was tossed from a moving car back in September. Hanging out with Lucky, you'd never guess that anything bad ever happened to her. She is incredibly easygoing, loving, confident, and trusting - with dogs and people alike. She is very perceptive and learns what you want her to do and not to do easily. She knows sit, stand, down (lay down), and is working on sit-stay. She is the kind of pup that you can take anywhere with you - she handles all situations one of two ways: with a calm curiosity or with an "I'm happy/no big deal" attitude. It's as though nothing bad could happen to her...Lucky is lucky! This is the pup you want by your side walking past broken mirrors and under ladders, not to mention cozy nights on the couch. VIDEOS: Lucky basking in belly rubs, Lucky & Kirby playing, Lucky sitting patiently

Justin

Picture
Justin is a 1-year old sweetheart Border Collie mix we rescued from Shasta County. His shelter paper work has him down as a Kelpie mix. He has the sweetest personality and has so much love to give. He'll bond closely with his forever person/family. Justin is very smart and will learn quickly. He weighs about 42 pounds. VIDEO: Justin's second day out of the shelter

Shasta

Picture
Shasta is about a year old Dobie mix and most likely mixed with cattle dog we rescued from Red Bluff. He has a shiny black coat and beautiful brindle markings on his face and legs. He is a happy, active boy who loves to play and has done great with other dogs he has met. Shasta is doing well with the cat in his temporary foster home after being properly introduced, so he could do well with future feline friends. He walks well on leash and is crate trained, he actually enjoys spending time in there. He also responds very well to correction and learns very quickly. He would make an excellent jogging partner, since he keeps pace beautifully. When outside playing he loves to climb into his water bowl, so we think he'd love to be a "water dog." He was an owner surrender when his family moved to Texas and sadly didn't bring him along. VIDEOS: Shasta playing nicely, Shasta loves fetch, Shasta at the beach

TJ

Picture
TJ is an 8 to 10-month old Labrador/Hound mix we rescued from Shasta County. He's a friendly, happy, and mellow boy who would love to stay by your side for any adventure or just lounging around.

Hank

Picture
Hank is a 7-8 month old Terrier-Dachshund mix pup we rescued from Delano along with his brother Hardy. Hank, right now, is a shy guy when he first meets you, but once he gets to know you, he loves getting all your attention. He likes to snuggle on the couch and will try to give you kisses whenever he gets the chance. He is house trained, and he typically sleeps through the entire night in his crate (what a good boy!). Although a bit timid when meeting other dogs, he gets along fine with them once he knows they're friendly. He also gets along with kids once he warms up to them. Hank & Hardy are very sweet, loving boys who were left in a backyard when people moved. Both are friendly, playful pups who love everyone & everything, even cats. These boys look alike, except Hank's front feet are white & all four of Hardy's feet are white

Lily

Picture
Lily is a super sweet and affectionate 2-month old Labrador mix we rescued from Devore. She's getting along great with the 3-year old little girl in her foster home and loves being her playmate. Lily has playful bursts, but is otherwise a very mellow little puppy who loves curling up in her bed for nap time. She's a shy girl right now as she adjusts to life outside the shelter, but she will build confidence over time. She's a little nervous riding in the car, but is comforted by sitting in your lap. She's doing well with her potty-training and is learning to walk well on leash.

Hardy

Picture
Hardy is a goofy 7-8 month old Terrier-Dachshund mix pup we rescued from Delano along with his brother Hank. Hardy sat patiently for his nail trim and ear clean the first night out of the shelter--and did fine in the bath after he figured out what it was. He's also been patient with a small child in his temporary foster home who loved leaning on him and petting him. Hank & Hardy are very sweet, loving boys who were left in a backyard when people moved. Both are friendly, playful pups who love everyone & everything, even cats. These boys look alike, except Hank's front feet are white & all four of Hardy's feet are white. VIDEOS: Hardy being patient with baby, Hardy making himself at home, Minnie, Hank, and Hardy

Molly

Major

Picture
Major is a major-league love bug. If he were in college, he'd be majoring in "how to be your best friend" and acing it--honors all the way. (Okay, it's a fun name, we couldn't help it.) He just wants to be loved so much and has a lot of love to give in return. This 9-month old Retriever/Border Collie mix is eager and ready to bond with someone. He's got a goofy side and gets along with other dogs. He's staying with a foster family up near the shelter before he comes to us this week and they took him to the snow, which he loved. He also rode well in the car. They taught him to sit in one day--smart boy! And he is well on his way to being house trained...he lets them know when he needs to go outside. He spent the the last two nights in the crate and did well. He loves his Nylabone and his stuffed toy. He's got typical puppy energy but settles down after some exercise and is happy to lay by your side. Major will be an awesome friend and companion.

Abe

Picture
Abe is an approximately 1-year old Labrador Retriever-Rottweiler mix we rescued from Lake County. He's very in-tune with his surroundings and his people--if you're looking to lounge on the couch, he's happy to be mellow by your feet. If you're up and ready to go, he'll be there ready to join you. He just loves people and his bushy tail will not stop wagging when you pet or talk to him. Abe is getting along well with the other dog in his foster home--even though he's bigger, he doesn't play too rough. He would love a dog companion in his adoptive home--someone he can play and get his exercise with in the backyard or local field. He also rides well in the car. Dear Abe was surrendered by his owner, like so many dogs are in this economy. This handsome boy weighs about 68 pounds. VIDEO: Abe playing with another dog

Forrest

Picture
Forrest is a friendly 4-year old male Boxer-mix we rescued from Red Bluff. Shelter life was getting to this sweet guy--he wasn't eating and started losing weight so we wanted to get him out of there! When you meet Forrest, he's immediately friendly, outgoing, and so happy to see you. His first day out of the shelter he played great with other dogs, and was a laid back boy with a big group. If you're looking for a devoted fan, this is your guy. He is a cuddle bug who thinks he is a lap dog, so count on Forrest to be your big furnace for those cold nights on the couch. He also appears to know his basic commands. He was originally found by a logger wandering in the forest (hence his name), who adopted him, then gave him to a friend..that man was arrested and then "Forrest" ended up in the shelter. He deserves a stable, loving home after all of this!

He weighs about 68 pounds

Snow

Snow is a beautiful 6-month old Welsh Corgi/Cardigan mix we rescued from Devore.

Buddy

Picture
Buddy is an approximately 4-year old white and tan Labrador Retriever mix we rescued from Lake County. We think Buddy has had training before because he listens well. He's a very good-looking boy--this shelter photo doesn't do him justice.

Farrah

Picture
Farrah is a sweetheart 1-2 year old pit mix who we rescued along with her five puppies. She loves other dogs and kids, and she is excellent with house training. She is not defensive of her food and is easy to train. She's learning her basic commands and is a great jogging partner. Farrah has a lot of joy for life, makes you laugh, and is very faithful and loving. She was getting along with three other adult dogs in a temporary foster home she was in, which speaks to her easy-going nature. In her new foster home she's shown to do well with young kids - being very calm and gentle around them. She's also been good-natured with the dog in her current foster home as well. Farrah is a gem, a pup to adore and cuddle close to--she'll make any family or person very happy. VIDEOS: Farrah is a wonderful dog, Farrah with kids, Farrah at the beach

Hershey

Picture
Hershey is a 4-month old Chocolate Labrador/Pointer mix we rescued from Glen County. He's a little guy, so we think he may also be mixed with a smaller breed, like a Jack Russell Terrier.

Huckleberry

Picture
Huckleberry is a 4-month old lab/pointer/border collie mix. He's a sweet, happy, friendly guy, who loves other dogs and cuddle time with his people. He is extremely calm and very lovable. He hasn't had any crazy-pup moments so far in his foster home, and as long as he gets to be with his people and cuddle, he's satisfied. A medium energy pup, a good romp at the local field will tucker him out for hours. He can be shy at first with new people, but he warms up. He's learning to walk well on leash, too, and doesn't pull much for a puppy. Huckleberry also knows the commands sit, here, come, and no.

Chance

Picture
Chance is a 9-month old Border Collie/Retriever/Chow (shelter label) mix we rescued from Red Bluff. He looks very much like a little spaniel mix to us with those cute perky ears and silky coat. He has one of those adorable forever young faces, who will probably always be mistaken for a puppy, lucky boy. Chance must have had a rough start to life as he is currently not extremely trusting of humans. He doesn't mind being near people but prefers to keep a safe distance. He does well with other dogs and would probably do best with another dog in the home to help him come around. He walks well on leash always staying a step behind. He also did fine with the cat in his previous foster home. He also enjoys his crate and is a pretty quiet pup.

Serena

Picture
Serena is a sweet and cuddly 3.5 month-old black Labrador/Border Collie mix we're rescuing from Shasta County. From Serena's foster: "Serena has bonded quickly with every member of our family. She is so loving and eager to please! She has learned how to "sit" and is working hard on house training. Every night she goes in her crate without complaints. Her favorite thing to do is to go for walks and explore the world. She is endlessly curious. Everyone who meets her falls in love. She will be so grateful to find her forever home." VIDEOS: Serena playing with her foster brother, Serena playing chase

Babe

Picture
Babe is 9 to 10 months old and was rescued from the Delano Shelter just in time. He was named Babe after everyone's favorite pig. With that cute pudgey face and pink nose how could you not? He's currently only 35 lbs. and described as a Boxer-Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix. He actually looks like he may have a little Boston Terrier in there as well. Babe is a sweetie through and through. He is incredibly gentle with young children and crate trained. He loves to sun himself on the porch and is content to lie for hours in one place.  Babe does also have a playful side that emerges when he meets other dogs or when he gets to jump on his toy lobster!  He also likes to great foster mom by wagging his short nub of a tail. Heidi

Picture
Heidi is a sweetheart 4-month old lab/pointer/border collie mix. She likes to lie at your feet and curl up for cuddles. She's an easy dog to be around and isn't a barker. Her siblings Harper, Harmony, and Hayden have been adopted, and now it's her turn....

Harmony

Picture
Hello, my name is Harmony, and if I were a person, I would be a regal queen. I am only 4-months old, but I already have tremendously long legs and a dainty demeanor that is very endearing to my foster mom. When you first meet me, I may seem a little shy, but you will soon learn it is just an act! Within minutes, my confident, playful, and flirtatious self emerges. Certainly no one who has met me has been able to withstand my beguiling charms. I am more calm and reserved than the average young puppy, but I also have my playful moods (see my video). The shelter labeled me as a lab/pointer/border collie mix. The pointer part is true as the first time my foster mom followed me into the yard, I made a perfect point right at her! VIDEO: Harmony with Babe

Griffin

Picture
Griffin is a 3.5 month old Labrador mix we rescued from Redding. He's the sweetest little guy with a wonderful personality. He is happy, friendly and playful. His foster says he's smart and loves playing fetch. He waits patiently inside the door while you take off his leash--what a good boy! Griffin will be a fabulous addition to any family.

Jayla

Picture
Jayla is an approximately 8-month old Boston Terrier or possibily boxer mix we rescued from Shasta County. She's a total lovebug and has a cute Boston underbite. She's very sweet and loves other dogs. Jayla's an energetic girl who loves to run around. She's also very friendly and loves to say "hi" to everyone. Jayla likes to snuggle and is so affectionate. She really likes to play fetch and will usually bring the ball back to you. Jayla is an active girl and weighs about 30lbs. Jayla sadly lost her home when her person died and there wasn't anyone else to take her. VIDEO: Jayla

Cooper

Picture
Cooper is an approx. 3-month old male Rottweiler mix we rescued from Devore. He may have Rottweiler coloring but he definitely won't be as big as one! Cooper is doing well with the cat in his temporary foster home if you're looking for a kitty-friendly pup. He's a small pup, weighing under 20 lbs, playful and approachable. His first night of freedom he slept through the night in his crate. VIDEO: Cooper

Wyatt

Picture
Wyatt is a 5-month old male, blue merle Queensland Heeler mix we rescued from Devore. His fosters say he's the most calm and lovable guy they've ever met (high compliments for little Wyatt!). If you sit on the floor with him he'll venture over to give you some puppy kisses, then he'll crawl up in your lap for a little nap--he clearly understands what "the good life" is all about. When his fosters sit down for dinner, they put him in his crate and he just hangs out without a whimper. He's also up for a game of fetch, but after a little while he's ready for another puppy nap (again, he's really embracing a siesta lifestyle--smart boy). He's also sleeping through the night in his crate without a peep, and walking great on leash.

Jessie

Picture
Jessie is a 6-month old female listed by the shelter as a Black Labrador/Hound mix.  She probably has other breeds in her such as pit or boxer.  Jessie rushed out of her crate and up her foster mom's stairs when she arrived in San Francisco. She was probably feeling overjoyed to have gotten a second chance at life (and also happy to be done with a 5-hour car ride!). Jesse is a social butterfly and likes to run up to every dog and person she meets with her long tail wagging. She gets along with dogs of all dispositions and has a beautiful thick black coat! She would make a great addition to any family and would be a good dog for first-time dog owners.  Jessie already sleeps through the night and is crate trained (bonus!). VIDEO: Jessie and Babe

Lizzie

Picture
Lizzie is a 11-week old Lab mix puppy we rescued from Lake County. She's about 9 pounds right now, but she is growing fast...she's not the most coordinated right now, which is actually super cute! She's a total bundle of energy, and she loves to play and explore. She definitely likes attention and will often try to give you kisses if you let her. She walks well on leash for a puppy, and she's very good during bath time. Lizzie would be a super fun addition to your family!  Currently she is fostered in Menlo Park where she is getting exposed to another dog and kids (and she's doing great so far).

Preston

Picture
Preston is a 7 month old, 30 lb terrier mix rescued from the Delano shelter. Preston is a GREAT dog who loves everyone and gets along with all the other dogs, big or small. He was described by shelter staff and volunteers as "bomb-proof" and got the lucky job of babysitter to the small dogs who first come into the shelter scared and nervous. His playful, gentle nature always brought them around. Preston would make the perfect family dog. He loves to play, play, play, but is never a pest. Gentle and friendly, Preston likes to be around you, make eye contact, and settle down close to where you are. He's ready for a quick play whenever you want and settles down when he sees you are busy. He walks well on a leash and seems house-trained (so far no accidents in his foster home and he patiently waits for you to take him out). VIDEO: Preston

Mason

Picture
Mason is a 4-month old male chocolate brown & white Labrador Retriever mix we rescued from Devore. Mason is doing well with the cat in his foster home if you're looking for a kitty-friendly pup. He's also doing great with the foster's dog, too. He's a small pup, weighing under 20lbs. Mason is typical puppy--playful, rambunctious, and a total sweetheart. His first night of freedom he slept through the night in his crate.

Mira

Picture
Mira is an approximately 1-year old pup we rescued from Wasco. She's potty-trained, good with cats, and she loves her crate. She's a smart pup and knows sit, stay, come, lie, down, off, and is learning "shake" quickly. She also hardly sheds - bonus! Mira is great on leash and can be walked by the 8-year old she currently lives with, no problem. Speaking of kids, Mira is doing great with the kids in her current home (ages 8, 6). She'll follow you around the house to be near you, a "love shadow" you might call it. She's also a big cuddle bug. Mira loves to play with tennis balls and rope toys, as well as other dogs. She is back in the rescue because of her shyness. It takes Mira a day or two to warm up to most people, but once you gain her trust, Mira will be the most loyal lifelong companion you can have. She is labeled as a pit mix by the shelter, but we think her face has a little Pharaoh Hound, and possibly some Chihuahua too.

Zeke

Picture
Zeke is a 1.5 year old Labrador/Hound mix we rescued from Fresno. He's a sweet guy who will love you unconditionally! Zeke has the energy to go on walks and run about in the yard, but in the house he's very mellow and will lovingly follow you around. He's good and adapts with different dogs, and even cats, so he could be great in a multi-pet household. He's very loving with people and will be there to greet you when you come home. We think he'd do best with a dog buddy in his new home. Zeke likes to lay his head on your leg and get petted - what a fabulous dog to have in the family! He has pretty light golden eyes and doesn't need a lot of grooming. His foster says he's "a gem of a dog".

Boone

Picture
Boone is a 4-month old puppy listed by the Devore shelter as a pit mix.  We think he looks more like a border collie-dachshund mix.  He has an adorable face and a very long, low body. He gets along great with the other dogs in his foster home and is described to be a very happy go lucky guy. Boone is a dog park favorite and was even able to win over a dog-aggressive shepherd that was kept on leash. He hasn't had a single accident in his foster home yet, and is also respectful of the cat, who he seems to know is the boss of the household! On his first day of freedom, he raced around on the lawn and rolled on his back over and over. This little guy was just happy to be safe!  VIDEOS: Boone Plays Chase, Boone plays keep-away

Tucker

Picture
Tucker is a 10-month old Treeing Walker Coonhound we're rescuing from Shasta County. He's a super sweetie who likes to likes to sit next to you and snuggle up. Tucker has a gentle and affectionate personality. He hasn't noticed the cat so far in his foster home, instead preferring to lay by his foster's feet (sometimes with a little snore!). A shelter volunteer shared that she saw him do really well a 4-year old, and he seems to be a quiet guy with good manners. She says, "He's just a sweet, sad hound dog hoping to get a chance for love." He was adopted by his fosters and now lives with a kitty sibling.

Thea

Picture
At just 30 pounds, Thea might be the smallest shepherd mix you will ever see.  Thea's foster mom reports that she has a great disposition around people, sits calmly for her bath, and still shows a lot of puppy energy so you would never guess she’s six years old. In fact, Thea loves to lay down facing the family dog Teddy, and the two will alternate stealing a ball from each other. Thea is housetrained and does great visiting dog parks, dutifully following her foster mom Pat around the park. Thea is an extremely loving dog that bonds very intensely with her human family members. As a result, we think she would do best in a home as the only dog of the house. Poor Thea was scared by the fireworks and ended up in the shelter on July 4th.  Lucky for her, when her family never showed up, stepped in to give her a second chance.

Keegan

Picture
Keegan is an approximately 6-month old Border Collie mix puppy we rescued from the Merced shelter. His foster describes him as super sweet, very smart, and good on leash. Keegan sleeps through the night on a bed in his foster's room and hasn't had any accidents. He's learned to sit down in the back of the car and is learning heel. Keegan also loves to play with his ball, but he's still working on the fetch part...

Zena

Zena is a 5-6 month old pit mix we rescued from Calaveras County. She has long legs and big paws so we think she might have some Great Dane in her. She was surrendered because her owners lost their home. She's a really sweet, wonderful gal, who gets along with other dogs. Zena is very friendly, and makes friends wherever she goes. She's not food or toy possessive and walks well on leash. She plays with cats like they're dogs, so she could do well in a home with a dog-savvy cat. She's a smart girl who responds to "no" quickly. Zena is playful, happy, and active. VIDEO: Zena being silly

Bradley

Picture
Bradley is a big, fluffy 4-5 month old shepherd mix who is already at 30lbs, so will be a BIG boy. He gets along great with other dogs and just wants to play. He's currently living with a 1-year old pup in his foster home and does great. He's also shown to be house-trained in his foster home - what a good puppy! Bradley is a quick learner and already has mastered "sit" and "come". He's also passed the temperament test at a local doggy daycare and does wonderfully playing with all the other dogs, frolicking about with those adorable uncoordinated puppy legs. He would do best in a home where he can get plenty of activity. Bradley also has a gorgeous tail, which only adds to his handsome self!

Austin is an extremely affectionate and well adjusted puppy that has gotten along with every dog, big or small, that he has met.  He loves to cuddle and melts in your arms when he is being petted.  He has been in a home with small children and done very well, showing them great patience as they poked and prodded him.  Austin may have some hound in him, and possibly also border collie and/or lab.  Austin can be very playful, but is also content to lie in the sun once playtime is over. A great dog for first time dog owners. VIDEO: Austin and Cecilia playing

However, once she won the dogs over, she was off and running, trying to entice them to play. VIDEOS: Cecilia and baby, Cecilia and Austin playing

Irene is quiet unless she hears noises outside, then she'll make herself heard (a pint-sized guard dog). Annie (adopted 9/17/11)

Picture
Annie is a 5-month old blue and white pit/ lab puppy we rescued from Devore. Although she has the stunning coat of a blue pit, her longer snout and more slender frame show that she must have other breeds in her, possibly lab or even Weimaraner. Annie would be a great dog for a first time dog owner. She is friendly and submissive with other dogs and outgoing and affectionate with people, including babies! For a puppy, Annie can be surprisingly calm during the day, lounging around the backyard or napping with the other dogs. She loves to be near you and her foster describes her an absolute lover. She's not much of a barker and will let out only a couple of barks if she hears something strange outside. Whenever she makes eye contact with foster mom, though, she literally jumps for joy and starts wagging her tail. He's a playful guy who loves to play with tennis balls and stuffed animals, too.

Oh my darlin' Clementine! Clementine is an approx. 2-year old shepherd mix we rescued from Fresno. Her very experienced foster says Clementine is "ultra-sweet. My dog tries to bully her a bit and Clementine just turns away and ignores her, but will otherwise play back with my dog. She is so submissive, and just wants to please you. Clementine is an AWESOME dog, maybe the best one i've fostered!!" She loves attention and being with people. She also has the most beautiful brindle markings. VIDEOS: Clementine with baby, Clementine being sweet & submissive

Piglet (adopted 8/14/11)

Picture
Piglet is looking for his Winnie-the-Pooh, in other words, a new best friend! We rescued Piglet from the Bakersfield shelter just in time earlier this year. He's about 6-months old now. The shelter labeled him a pit mix, but we think he's got Chihuahua, too. Piglet loves playing with other dogs, he's a great cuddle buddy, and he also loves giving kisses. Piglet has had a rough start to life. He escaped an unfortunate shelter fate, survived parvovirus, was adopted... and then he was surrendered to the shelter... then rescued again! He was surrendered for no fault of his own (this boy is a great dog!). Piglet deserves a responsible family that will commit to him for a lifetime. His new home is in San Francisco where he lives with another Copper's Dream alum! Sponsored by Janice Georges on behalf of Cindy Georges.

She weighs about 30 lbs. The shelter labeled her as a pit, which they do as a default for a lot of dogs, but we think her narrow face and lanky body say something else, like Pointer.

She also has a beautiful coat and the family she's with now says people are always remarking what a great temperament she has. Mako (adopted 7/2/11)

Picture
Mako is estimated at 8 months and a lab/pit bull mix. He is a spunky little guy who loves, loves all people and all dogs. He also calmly greeted the cat and then went on his way, so with proper introductions he should do fine living with one. He already knows "sit", "lay down", "gentle", "go inside" "go to your crate" and he's almost got "heel" down. He's learning how to shake and sit on his back legs - what a smart boy! Mako is a total social butterfly who alters his play depending on the size of the dog - very considerate of him. Kids love Mako and Mako loves kids! He's a good-natured and charming pup who loves to frolic outside, and play with other dogs. He is not a fan of his crate (can you blame him after being in a shelter?), but he is potty trained, doesn't chew anything and can sleep outside his crate all night with no problem. So trustworthy! Dexter gets to live with another doggie playmate and spend his days living the good life in San Jose. VIDEO: Dexter playing

Harvey (adopted 6/30/11)

His foster says he is very affectionate, loves to be by your side, he's quiet and low maintenance (especially for his age), he walks great on leash, and responds to training with treats really well. He's done fine with his bath and teeth brushing (good boy!). Currently he is potty-trained at his foster home where he has access to the backyard. Since he's been rescued we've seen him "tree" a critter and try to climb the trunk...he's going with his genetics! Harvey quickly found a home in Campbell, which is no surprise.

June (adopted 6/30/11)

At a recent adoption event she was friendly with everyone she met and was a typical wiggly puppy. She liked the other dogs at the event and just has a general "happy go lucky" attitude. Her coat feels like velvet - she's so soft. She was named "June" in honor of being saved on the day of the summer equinox. June now a city girl spending her time in San Francisco.

Hannah (adopted 6/26/11)

Picture
Hannah is a 7-month old mix puppy we rescued from Devore. She is back up for adoption for no fault of her own, it's just not a right fit size-wise (she is currently 27 lbs and will only grow to be 40-50lbs mostl likely). Her original adopter thinks she's a great dog and says: Hannah is quirky with her toys, beautiful, athletic, eager to please, and she enjoys playing with the neighborhood dogs. She has done well meeting new dogs both big and small. Her first foster said this about Hannah: "She is VERY sweet and loves to give kisses. She seems to love all people, and loves getting and giving affection. She also loves to snuggle and go on walks." Hannah has not shown any interest in cats, so we think with the right introductions, she would be fine with them. We just love the little white band by her nose and her big floppy ears - too cute! This shelter labeled her as a pit mix, which is the label they assign to the majority of their dogs. We think she has some lab qualities physically and in the face, maybe some hound as well. Hannah is now living in San Francisco.

Riley (adopted 6/25/11)

Picture
Riley is a handsome 1-year old male black Labrador mix we rescued from the Devore shelter. The shelter labeled him as a pit mix, which they do with the majority of their dogs as a default. His foster says: "Riley is doing fantastic with his basic training. He knows Sit, Down, Stay, Leave It, Take It, Wait, and Drop It, and Flip (for a ball) very well. We're currently working on Spin, Sit Pretty, and Roll Over. He's also potty trained (hasn't had one accident since his first day with me) and walks perfectly on a leash with the help of the easy walker harness. He sleeps through the night on his bed but is a great cuddler if he's invited up. He also is FANTASTIC fetcher!!" VIDEO: Riley Playing Ball

Teddy also loves to go for car rides and tries to jump in the car every time he sees an open door. If you are looking for a mature easy going guy to be your best bud, he is definitely your guy. Teddy likes to chase kitties, so a no-cat home is best. Teddy is now living in Castro Valley. VIDEO: Teddy gives "5"

Addie has a sweet soul, gets along with other dogs, and has proven patient with the playful antics of younger puppy Felix in her temporary foster home. She's a mellow girl, and we get the sense she would be eternally devoted to her adopter - she has such a loving way about her. She's now living in Martinez. She gets along with other puppies and is friendly with people - everyone who meets her and her sister Leia loves them! They both like to snuggle and come sit on your lap. Chewie is now living in Napa. Chewie was sponsored by Bunny and Piglet, and Katie Jones.

He loves affection and aims to please. Sam gets along well with his foster's dog and wants to say "hi" to everyone he meets - a very friendly boy! Sam is also a bit of a diplomat, as he hasn't shown any response to dogs acting aggressively towards him. Sam is now living in Santa Cruz.

Picture
Floppy is a female black and white mix, approximately 3-months old we are rescuing from the Devore shelter. We think she's a Great Dane mix based on her looks, but the shelter labeled her as a "pit mix",  which seems to be their default breed assignment. There's nothing wrong with a pit mix in our book, but we think it should be assigned appropriately. She is an outgoing, friendly, happy-go-lucky gal. She'll need to put on some weight, but she'll fill out nicely. Floppy is now living in Morgan Hill with kids and cats.

Sienna (adopted 6/16/11)

Picture
Sienna is an approximately 11-month old gorgeous mix we are rescuing for the Devore shelter. She has the body of a Labrador and the coloring/coat of a Rhodesian Ridgeback. The shelter seems to default every dog to pit mix, including Sienna, but we just don't see it. She's a pretty girl, who is friend, affectionate, and loves to roll around in the grass. Sienna is now living in Santa Cruz.

Leia (adopted 6/15/11)

Picture
Leia is a 2-3 month-old Australian Shepherd pup we rescued from the Wasco shelter. She came to the shelter with very little hair, but as you can see her coat is filling in nicely after a bath and flea treatment. She's a stunning little pup. She gets along with other puppies and is friendly with people - everyone who meets her and her sister Chewie loves them! Leia is now living in Rohnert Park

Hannah (adopted 6/15/11)

Picture
Hannah is a 4-month old mix puppy we rescued from Devore. She has done well meeting new dogs both big and small. Her foster says: "She is VERY sweet and loves to give kisses. We think she has the build of a Great Dane (the ears and her long legs) and some lab qualities as well in the face. Hannah is now living in Mountain View with duck siblings.

River (adopted 6/14/11)

Picture
River is a 9-week old female Labrador Retriever/Border Collie mix puppy we rescued from the Lake County shelter along with her sisters Laguna and Brooke. River is a playful pup, and very sweet. Chevy (adopted 6/14/11)

Picture
Chevy is an adorable tan and white male shepherd mix from the Salinas shelter. The shelter estimated he is about 7 months old. His foster said he's a calm boy who just likes to hang out. He even seems to be potty trained and sleeps the whole night on his dog bed without incident. Chevy loves to be near you and is a loyal, sweet guy - "a big teddy bear," said his foster. He has been doing fine in his crate. He got along with the dog in his foster home, walks pretty well on leash, and learned "sit" quickly. He only barks when he hears something suspicious. Chevy is now living in Newark. Chevy was sponsored by Deby Symes.

Danny (adopted 6/14/11)

She is a cuddle bug, submissive, and easy going. She is currently being fostered in Redwood City. Roo came down with the parvovirus, but she's recovered and ready for a loving, permanent home. Felix (adopted 6/11/11)

Picture
Felix is an approximately 5-month old pit/lab mix that we rescued from the Devore shelter just in time. Rachel (adopted 6/3/11)

Picture
Rachel is a super cute Rottweiler mix, approximately 6 months old. She is a very friendly girl with a sweet, mellow disposition who loves all the people and dogs she meets. Rachel's initial adopters think Rachel is a wonderful, loving, snuggly, very smart, good dog, but unfortunately it's not a good match between Rachel and their older cat. Rachel's new forever home is in San Francisco where she'll be living with a couple close to the beach.

Picture
Shelby is a pretty tan female shepherd/pit mix from the Salinas shelter. We estimate she's about 5 months old. She is very friendly and loves being around people; she gets along great with other dogs (big and small) and even cats. She learns very fast (knows "sit" and "down" already!) and loved to go running and hiking with her foster. Her ears flop over to the left or right - it's very endearing. Shelby would do best with an active family. Shelby is now living in Richmond with two kitty siblings.

Kushi (adopted 5/24/11)

Picture
Kushi is a lab/hound mix, approximately 2 years old. There may be some St. Bernard in there too. Her name means "happiness" in Hindi, and boy is she happy to be out of the shelter! She's recovering well from mange, so her coat will fill out fabulously in time. Kushi is getting along well with the other dogs in her foster home. Kushi was adopted by her foster and now lives in Cherryland with doggy siblings. (Sponsored by Kathrin Sidell in honor of Juno)

Kayla

Picture

Kayla sits and lays down pretty consistently, and she is working on stay too. Kayla is not as energetic as her sister Kyra, but will chase her in the yard if the opportunity presents itself! Kayla was adopted by a loving couple and now lives in Woodside.

Chuck (adopted 5/21/11)

Picture
Chuck is an adorable black Labrador (mix?) puppy getting rescued from the Lake County shelter. He's approx. 12 weeks old old. Chuck's new home is in San Jose where he'll grow up with a cat sibling.

Roo (adopted 5/20/11)

The shelter labeled her and her siblings as Doberman/Border Collie mixes, but we see Heeler in there as well. She loves the backyard at her foster home and has been well behaved with their cat. At the local baseball field she loves to run around and play puppy fetch. She's also well on her way to being house trained. She's been a quiet pup in her crate and is a little on the shy, submissive side. Once she gets used to this big wide world we think her confidence out of the home will improve. The pups in this litter will grow up to be good-sized dogs. Jewel's new home is in San Jose where she is living with a cat and a young boy.

Rosie (adopted 5/20/11)

Picture
Rosie is a 2-3 month old puppy rescued from the Bakersfield shelter just in time. She's a very friendly pup, loves wrestling and playing with toys. The shelter labeled Rosie as a pit mix, but don't see too much pit at all. She is currently about 10-12lbs. After getting out her puppy energy she settles down for a nice nap in your lap. She also loves to cuddle with her foster in bed. She is getting along with the resident dog in her foster home and follows him around to play. Rosie is a very outgoing girl who loves attention. She's also doing well with the kids in her foster home. VIDEO: Rosie and Piglet. Rosie was adopted by her fabulous foster and is living in San Francisco.

Cider (adopted 5/20/11)

Picture
Cider is an approximately 5-year old German Shorthaired Pointer/Labrador Retriever mix rescued from San Jose Animal Services. Her owner died and then the grandson of the owner dumped poor Cider off at the shelter. She is house trained and it was noted on her surrender paperwork that she likes to run. She likes to go jogging with her foster mom and hop in the shower. She's also getting along with the dog in her foster home. She does not demonstrate fear of people, rather, she's still adjusting to the sudden change in her life. We think she wasn't socialized much in her first home. VIDEO: Cider's first day. Cider will be living in Mountain View with a dog companion and a dedicated "mom" who will help her gain confidence with the big, wide world. (Sponsored by Deby Symes)

Picture
Hercules is an approximately 1.5 year old husky/Pointer mix boy who was rescued from the Bakersfield shelter back in 2009. For no fault of his own he's looking for a new home. He is about 50 lbs and would make for a great running or adventure partner! This smart boy knows all the basic commands like sit, stay, down, heel, and off. Most of all, he loves to play and be outdoors in the fresh air. He is a loyal guy looking for his forever best friend. He gets along with dogs and people alike. Hercules is now living in a home in San Francisco with a kitty companion.

Hula (adopted 5/14/11)

Picture
Hula is estimated at 2-3 years old and is a stunning female blue pit bull terrier mix rescued from Wasco. We have named her Hula in honor of happier places beyond the cold conditions of her rural shelter! She is a sweet, friendly girl who is beyond the excited puppy stage and is at the perfect balance of energy and calmness. She's definitely not one to bounce off the walls. She does not pull on leash and is housebroken. She enjoys the company of other dogs and just wants to be loved. Hula does fine with cats and at adoption events Hula did great with everyone she met (big dogs, small dogs, little kids, adults). Hula was adopted by one of our rescue's directors and is now living in Pacifica. VIDEOS: Hula so sweet!, Hula and Lark

Cam (adopted 5/14/11)

Picture
Cam is an approximately 1-2 year old male spaniel mix rescued from the Wasco shelter. Under that pretty fur he's got some long legs. He is friendly with other dogs and loves to play. In his temporary foster home he was respectful and submissive with the other dogs. Cam is not a needy dog, and is calm in the home, sweet, & well behaved. His foster did not crate him while she was at work, and while she checked in on him at lunch, he didn't have any accidents. He's got great energy when he lets loose and enjoys running around. Poor Cam was found tied with a rope to another dog - things are looking up for Cam now! Cam is now living in Pacifica.

Raven (adopted 5/13/11)

Picture
Raven is a very pretty mix, we're guessing a Border Collie/Lab/Pit mix. Raven's been around lots of dogs, all sizes, and she does great with everyone. She's approximately 8 months old, 48lbs, and very sweet. She is very playful gal and used to live with 8 other dogs, so she always had someone to play with. Raven is very affectionate and would love someone to give her pets and belly rubs - she thinks she's a lap dog! Raven was adopted by her foster in the East Bay is gets to enjoy outings around Lake Merritt.

Pepi (adopted 5/12/11)

Picture
Pepi is a 3-4 year old poodle rescued from Wasco. He looks like he could be purebred, and his coat could be good for people with allergies. Pepi is a pretty mellow guy who comes when called and already walks well on leash. He is a really friendly, happy, and relaxed pup who would make a great companion. Pepi also gets along with other dogs he's met, and is did well with the cats in his foster home. He has met a toddler and some pre-teen kids and has done great with all of them. In the words of his foster, "He continues to love everyone he meets." He loves to be near you, does well with stairs and elevators, and he did well in his bath. He went to work with his foster each day and everyone at the office adored him. Pepi is now living in Belmont with three kitty siblings.

Aiden (adopted 5/8/11)

Picture
Aiden is a handsome 1 1/2 year old pit bull terrier mix. He is a very loving boy who is a little on the shy side. Aiden enjoys the company of other dogs but is still learning all about proper play behavior. He is very eager to please and treat motivated so should be easy to train. He is already working on sit and is making quick progress. He loves his toys just as much he loves being around people. He is one fast boy who loves to run and play outside, but will happily curl up on the couch with you once indoors. Aiden does great on the leash and seems to be housebroken. Aiden is living in San Francisco.

Jane (adopted 5/7/11)

Picture
Jane is a sweet little terrier girl who is about 7 months old. She has a beautiful chocolate brown coat with white hairs speckled throughout. She can be a little shy at first but after a few minutes her playful personality comes out. However, she switched foster homes for the weekend and it took her all of ten seconds to make herself at home and was as comfortable as could be! So far she has done well with the other pups and loves human affection. Jane unfortunately came down with the parovirus but she has recovered and is doing great. There are no long term effects and she'll lead a happy, normal life. Jane's new life is in San Francisco where she will have lots of fun with the three big dogs in her family!

Scarlett is mellow for a puppy, loves to be held, and is a big fan of curling up on your lap. Scarlett unfortunately came down with the parovirus, but she has fully recovered. Parvo has no lasting effects and dogs go on to lead a normal healthy life. Scarlett is now living in San Francisco with a kitty sibling.

Bayou (adopted 5/7/11)

Picture
Bayou is a gorgeous 6-7 month old puppy rescued from Calaveras County right before he was scheduled for euthanasia. Two kind volunteers who had fallen in love with this calm, sweet puppy and drove a total of six hours in order to deliver him to safety. Bayou is now living in San Francisco with his new foster family and enjoying how to learn to walk up stairs and roaming free in a yard for the first time in his life. Unlike most puppies, Bayou is very relaxed and calm, rarely if ever barks, and just likes to follow around people and/or other dogs. He will be a loyal and steadfast companion for his future adopter. While Bayou does have bursts of puppy playfulness, for the most part he is content just to lie in the sun, appreciating his second chance at life. The shelter listed Bayou as a pit and Weimaraner mix, but we think he may also have yellow lab and boxer in him. Lucky Bayou gets to accompany his adopter to work every day!
VIDEOS: Bayou sweetly licking a baby, Bayou playing with another dog, Bayou learned to climb stairs!

Starling (adopted 5/3/11)

Picture
Starling is an approximately 3-4 month old male pup from Merced. Starling was rescued along with his four siblings. The shelter labeled them as Queensland Heeler/pit bull mixes, but we see hound (perhaps Catahoula) and Heeler, and maybe even a little Beagle. He is a good-natured guy, and loves to snuggle with you. He's also a fan of playing with his brother Sparrow. Unfortunately Starling and his siblings all came down with the parvovirus and after a lengthy stay in the hospital with around-the-clock care they are fully recovered and are awaiting new homes. The cost for their care was expensive so an additional donation has been added to their adoption fee. Once a dog recovers from parvo there are no lasting effects and they cannot get the virus again. Starling is happy and healthy in his new home in Pleasanton! VIDEOS: Starling and Sparrow playing, Starling sleeping (with his tongue out), Starling playing fetch

Amber is an approx. 4-month old Dachshund/Terrier mix. She currently weighs about 8 pounds and is expected to grow to 12-15 lbs. Amber is a sweet and playful girl who loves her chew toys. She also loves to be held and cuddled. She's super quiet and does very well in the crate. Every so often she'll whimper to get your attention but we haven't heard her bark. She loves to be in your lap and will follow you around everywhere. Once in a while she'll flop on her back, inviting you to rub her belly! She does great on her leash and doesn't pull. She gets along well with other dogs, and at the shelter she was shown to be afraid of cats.

Wesley (adopted 4/21/11)

Picture
Wesley is a 1-2 year old Bichon Frise/Poodle mix we rescued from Wasco. He is a very friendly boy! He came to us with a mess of a coat, but beneath all of that hair was a handsome pup looking for a warm, safe, loving home. After we get him washed and groomed he's feeling so much better! Take a look at the album for some before and after photos. Wesley is friendly with other dogs and gets along just fine with the cats he has met, so would do probably do well in most multi-animal households. He also slept in his crate throughout the night without a peep. At the dog park he lets everyone sniff him. Wesley has found his forever home in San Francisco.

Peyton (adopted 4/19/11)

Picture
Peyton is a male brindle terrier mix pup - about 4 mo. old when rescued from Merced. He's got an outgoing personality and loves to play. His big floppy ears are adorable and his long lanky body reminds us of a greyhound's stature. Peyton's new home is in San Jose where he'll get to romp and play with another Copper's Dream adopted dog and a family with teenage children.

Isabel (adopted 4/11/11)

Picture
Isabel is an approx. 4-month old darling female Cocker Spaniel mix rescued from the Merced shelter. She's a little spitfire with a spunky personality. She has settled in nicely with her new family in San Jose, where she gets lots of cuddle time with the two children in the home.

Jay (adopted 4/9/11)

Picture
Jay is an approximately 3-4 month old male pup rescued from Merced along with his four siblings. Jay is a sweet, sweet boy. The shelter labeled him and his siblings as Queensland Heeler/pit bull mixes, but we see hound (perhaps Catahoula) and Heeler, and maybe even a little Beagle. Jay loves to play, but loves to cuddle even more. He’s very good with other dogs, and tolerates well being stepped on, bitten, tackled, and generally harassed by his energetic playful sister Dove! The first time he sets his head on your lap and looks at you with his big puppy eyes he’ll win you over. He’s a bit tentative and careful, but not skittish, so we think he'll be a good gentle dog. He loves being outdoors (must be all that fresh air!), and has learned to go outside to do his ‘business’. Unfortunately Jay and his siblings all came down with the parvovirus and after a lengthy stay in the hospital with around-the-clock care they are fully recovered. Once a dog recovers from parvo there are no lasting effects and they cannot get the virus again. Jay's new home is in San Francisco where he'll enjoy life with a doggy playmate.

Ryder (adopted 4/9/11)

Picture
Ryder is a male mixed breed pup rescued from the Merced shelter. The shelter said he was 3-4 months old but we're thinking he's more like 2 months based on his teeth. The shelter labeled him as a Cocker Spaniel mix, but he's already 20lbs, so if anything just a dash of Cocker Spaniel! By his looks he might have some Australian Shepherd in him. We think he's going to be a BIG boy. If "cute" were a breed, he'd be that. Just hours after he arrived from the shelter he sat quietly wagging his tail while given a bath. He comes when you whistle, too. His foster describes him as a total sweetheart and a big lover. Ryder was adopted into a home in San Jose with two young boys.

Dove (adopted 4/9/11)

Picture
Dove is an approximately 3-4 month old female pup rescued from Merced along with her four brothers. The shelter labeled them as Queensland Heeler/pit bull mixes, but we see hound (perhaps Catahoula) and Heeler, and definitely Beagle for little Dove. She looks up at you with sweet, soulful eyes that just steal your heart! Dove is a bundle of puppy energy! She is a small gal but has a big personality. She loves playing with her brother and foster sister – she’s great with other dogs and loves to play. She also has no fear – she just goes and goes and goes. Dove is very food motivated and toy motivated, so she should be easy to train. She’s definitely a cuddler, and loves to curl up next to you between bouts of play. After learning the household routine, she lets you know when she needs to go outside and hasn’t had any accidents inside for quite some time. Unfortunately Dove and her siblings all came down with the parvovirus and after a lengthy stay in the hospital with around the clock care they are fully recovered. Once a dog recovers from parvo there are no lasting effects and they cannot get the virus again. Dove's new family is a couple in Sunnyvale.

Russell (adopted 4/8/11)

Picture
Russell is a joyful dachshund/terrier mix, who is about 1-year old. He was described by shelter staff as a friendly boy who's a little shy, but we quickly saw the other side of Russell! After his foster gave him his bath he ran around her home in pure delight! He is a goofy playful pup who loves romping with other dogs and getting attention. Russell walks well on leash and gets along great with other dogs. Obviously he is not as shy as we were all expecting. He has a great little personality and is tail is always wagging. He's still quite a puppy. Russell will be living in San Francisco in a family with two kids.

Lark (adopted 3/29/11)

Picture
Lark is an approximately 3-4 month old male pup rescued from Merced along with his four siblings. Lark is a sweetheart. The shelter labeled them all as Queensland Heeler/pit bull mixes, but we see hound (perhaps Catahoula) and Heeler, and maybe even a little Beagle. Lark does great with the other dogs in his foster home and he is a completely lovable guy - a great snuggler! Unfortunately Lark and his siblings all came down with the parvovirus and after a lengthy stay in the hospital with around the clock care they fully recovered. Lark was adopted into a home in Alameda where he has a new doggy best friend.

Sparrow (adopted 3/29/11)

Picture
Sparrow is an approximately 3-4 month old male pup rescued from Merced along with his four siblings. He loves to snuggle and be on your lap. He loved his bath and tried to doggy paddle even though it was just a shower. The shelter labeled them all as Queensland Heeler/pit bull mixes, but we see hound (perhaps Catahoula, especially for Sparrow) and Heeler, and maybe even a little Beagle. Sparrow has a cute little distinctive light patch on his right eye. With some natural black eyeliner it's no wonder his fosters nicknamed him "Captain Jack Sparrow." He has done really well with the dogs he's met. Unfortunately Sparrow and his siblings all came down with the parvovirus and after a lengthy stay in the hospital they fully recovered. Sparrow has found a happy home in Palo Alto where he'll grow up with a young boy.
VIDEO: Sparrow and Starling playing

Kobe (adopted 3.27.11)

Picture
Kobe, formerly "Mighty Mo", was previously adopted but is looking for a new forever home. Unfortunately, he just didn't turn out to be the "chihuahua mix" we were told and is growing to be a bigger boy. His current owner wants to make sure he has the best family for his needs. Kobe is around 5 months and around 30 pounds. We don't know what breed mix he is, but he such a handsome puppy! He gets attention every where he goes because of his unique look. He takes a while to open up but when he does, he will want to cuddle with you any chance he gets. He will happily sleep in your arms all night and adores morning belly rubs! He rarely if ever barks. He is almost fully potty trained, he is completely pad trained. He is extremely smart, knows sit, stay and down. He even follows the mouse on a computer screen! He has a lot of energy so will need an active family. Kobe has found a new home with a young couple in Dublin.

Lori (adopted 3.16.11)

Picture
Lori is an approximately 10-month old female terrier pup from Merced. This sweet girl was found in the middle of nowhere, very thin. Despite this past, she's extremely outgoing and very affectionate. She loves playing with other dogs and people. Lori is a big fan of belly rubs and will give you lots of licks in return. She likes being close to you and is very eager for treats so she should be easy to train. She has been using the potty pads without fail, and will be on her way to being house-trained. Lori was adopted by a woman in San Carlos and is joining a happy house with two new dog siblings!

Ringo (adopted 3.16.11)

Picture
Ringo is an approximately 4-month old chihuahua mix who was rescued from Wasco. Although found as strays on different days he very well may be related to little Joey. He is a playful little guy with a big personality. He loves playing with other dogs and can hold his own with the big boys as well. His foster describes him as a love bug who adores cuddle time. He will wiggle his way into your lap, your arms, and under your covers. You might find him curled up under the sheets by your ankles in the morning! Ringo sticks close by off leash and has great recall. He loves to entertain himself with his toys-- tossing them, barking at them, then chasing them around the room. Ringo loves meeting new people and is just a happy-go-lucky kind of boy. Ringo was adopted by a family in San Carlos with two boys - everyone in the household thinks he's GREAT, except for the cat who is still deciding!

Emma (adopted 3.12.11)

Picture
Emma is a 3-month old Shepherd mix puppy rescued at the last minute from the Los Banos shelter, along with her sister Ella. At the shelter, they loved to cuddle with each other in their kennel. Emma has a sweet expressive face and luxurious, soft puppy fur. Emma is playful and inquisitive, but very polite. She loves to be held and is very affectionate. She is a nuzzler who likes to give you puppy kisses. She did well with her temporary foster's dog and cat. Unfortunately Emma was quickly showing signs of the parvovirus and needed immediate hospitalization. After spending five nights with around the clock care Emma is finally back to being a happy bouncy puppy. Due the enormous vet bills associated with treatment we are asking for an additional donation to help with some of the costs. Read about their story here: Ella & Emma's page. VIDEOS: Ella & Emma playing, Emma & hoof, Emma in the yard. Emma was adopted by a family in San Mateo where she'll grow up playing with their two young kids.

Brandon (adopted 3.11.11)

Picture
Brandon is an approximately 10-month old pup rescued from the Wasco shelter. The shelter labeled him as a pit bull mix, but with his long lanky legs, long body, and narrower face, we're guessing he's predominantly something else, like lab/shepherd. Brandon is a submissive and affectionate dog, who his foster describes as "a total love." He loves to saddle up right next to you and curl up. He greets new people with a wagging tail and loves to be pet. He has done great around other dogs, big and small. He is not dominant. Brandon has been good around kids, letting them hug him-- he might give a kiss in return. He's not a barker, and has only barked to let you know he's unsure about something. He is a medium energy dog, loves to lounge at night with his chew toys, and makes a great trail jogging partner. He has shown interest in cats, so he might do best in a home without them. Brandon was underweight when he was first rescued, as the stress of shelter life for two months was too much for him. Now he's putting on weight and filling out very nicely! Brandon is living the good life with his new family in Berkeley, where he can go jogging with his new mom, play in the garden, and get lots of love from the family's young child. Zoey

Picture
Zoey is a really playful little 2-month old terrier mix who loves exploring everything. She is learning to walk on leash, but right now seems to run into her foster's legs-- very endearing! She'll figure it out soon. She LOVES her foster's dogs so socializing this little lady with new canine friends will be a lot of fun. Zoey enjoys being around people and giving kisses. Zoey is now in her forever home in San Ramon with a teenage girl in the family as her new best friend.

Romeo (adopted 2.19.11)

Picture
Romeo is an adorable, fluffy 3 month old Australian Cattle Dog mix looking for some love. He was rescued from Los Banos and is a sweet boy. He gets along fine with other dogs and loves to cuddle. Romeo will need regular exercise and is going to be a pretty big boy, as he some pretty large feet. Unfortunately Romeo came to us with the Parvovirus and had to be hospitalized immediately. The virus has no long term effects and he is expected to make a full recovery and live a normal, healthy life. Romeo is now living in Petaluma with a new cat sibling.

Meaty (adopted 2.18.11)

Picture
Meaty is one little meatball of a guy. He is estimated at 6 months old and a English bull dog/pit mix. He is a super friendly little man greeting all dogs with submissive licks on the chin. He loves to just chill out and play with his toys and bask in the sun. He was so relaxed during his bath he nearly fell asleep! Meaty is a silly boy who will surely keep you laughing. He also loves to play fetch and will let you easily take any treat or toy from his mouth. Meaty was adopted and is living in Milpitas. VIDEOS: Gabe & Meaty,  Adopt Meaty

Jackson (adopted 2.16.11)

Picture
Jackson is a 4-5 month old black lab mix rescued from Los Banos. He was dumped at the shelter along with her sister who was quickly adopted. Jackson needed rescue immediately and we were happy to save him. He is a playful boy who gets along great with everyone. He must have had some training before being dumped as he already knows sit, walks excellent on leash and is very responsive to correction. He also loves fetch, is not mouthy and even is fine with cats. He will need regular exercise to stay healthy and happy. Jackson has found his happy home in Pacifica.

Prairie (adopted 2.10.11)

Picture
Prairie is a small terrier-mix but looks just like a miniature golden retriever - just over a year old and roughly 12 lbs. She is overwhelmingly sweet - a real snuggler. If you are looking for a dog that will follow you from room to room without being obtrusive, she is perfect! And so polite! She is a bit timid around other dogs, but adapts quickly and is learning how to play. She would be good around any age kid or other pets - or just all by herself to dote on you. She will definitely want you to hold her or sit with her a lot. She is not a barker though she does yip just a bit when she gets excited. She is not jumpy at all - extremely mild mannered especially for a dog that is so young. She likes to roll on her back and have her tummy rubbed - and she can walk and hop on her hind legs - she would be great at learning tricks. She makes a beeline for obvious chew toys but does not seem to chew anything else. If you want a young dog but don't have a ton of time to train one or deal with destructive puppy issues she would be PERFECT! Prairie has found a loving home in San Francisco.

Gabe (adopted 2.7.11)

Picture
Gabe is a 2-3 year old lovable boy. He is a blue pit bull mix from the Wasco shelter. He was found at the local high school wanting to play with the kids. He is described as a big goof ball with a heart of gold. He follows voice commands really well and just wants to be near you. On his ride from the shelter he was a quiet sleeper in his crate. Out of the crate he rides well in the car. He has an easy-going, unaffected attitude-- he just goes with the flow! While he is small in stature, he's one big muscle and will need a strong, experienced owner. He needs to put on a little weight, but now that he's out of the shelter he can relax and eat! Gabe is now living the good life in San Jose.

Pippi (adopted 2.4.11)

Picture
Pippi is a 1 year old chihuahua mix who is just cute as a button. She loves to be with people and get and give affection. She does great with other dogs, of all sizes, and loves to romp and play with them. She also gets along fine cats. She is slowly starting to understand what toys are all about, but just needs a loving family to show her. She is very treat motivated and eager to please and loves sleeping curled up under the covers. She walks well on leash and knows sit. Pippi is currently under 10lbs and would just love to be your constant companion. Pippi has found a forever home in San Francisco.

Samantha (adopted 2.3.11)

Picture
Samantha is a 2-3-month old Golden Retriever mix. The shelter labeled her as a Pomeranian. She may have a little Australian Shepherd in there as well. She's a sweetheart who relishes your affection and pets. Samantha was adopted by a family with children in Campbell, who are all very excited for her arrival.

Molly (adopted 2.1.11)

Picture
Molly is a sweet 2-month old Chihuahua mix that we rescued from the Delano shelter. She was adopted by her foster mom and is now living in San Francisco.

Madison (adopted 1.30.11)

Picture
Madison is a 1-yr old pit bull mix from Wasco. She might have some Boston Terrier in there, too. She is approximately 25-30 pounds. She loves people and their affection, returning the favor with a wiggle and wagging tail. Madison listens and responds quickly to commands. She was taught to leave the cat alone in her temporary foster home. She is now living happily with a couple in San Francisco.

Brit (adopted 1.28.11)

Picture
Brit is a Chihuahua-Terrier mix, less than 6 months old. She is described by shelter volunteers as super friendly and kind to all the other girls in her kennel area and with people. She loves attention and wants to be on your lap and get loved! Sweet Brit is now living in San Jose where she's getting along great with the other small dog in the home.

Lena (adopted 1.18.11)

Picture
Lena was estimated at 7 months old by the shelter, but a more accurate age may be between 1-2 years old. She is an anatolian shepherd mix, but on the smaller side, only about 45lbs. She is a playful girl who enjoys romping around and saying hi to everyone. She does well with other dogs but sometimes wants to be the boss, so a strong pack leader would be best. She is currently being fostered with another female dog and they get along great together. She has been learning basic commands and house manners with such ease, proving what a smart girl she is. She loves to please and looks for direction. Check her out having fun here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wv4jM6lRJjs. Lena now lives in Oakland with an older, wiser canine sister and a loving person.

Gidget (adopted 1.14.11)

Picture
Gidget came to us as just a baby at only about 4-6 weeks old. She was found as a stray in Merced County and was brought into the shelter. The shelter is no place for such a little baby. Once she turned 8 weeks, she was ready for adoption. She gets along great with dogs and even likes playing with cats. If you are interested in meeting Gidget please submit an application. Gidget is now enjoying her new home in Daly City.

Cole (adopted 1.9.11)

Picture
Cole is a stunning German shepherd who was rescued from Merced. He is estimated at about 4/5 months and will grow to be a large beautiful boy. He gets along well with dogs of all sizes and has an outgoing friendly personality and a super soft coat. He is learning basic commands and house training and is getting used to his crate. Cole's foster dad says he is a great puppy, will listen, and just wants to be next to you all the time. Cole got along great with the other dogs in his foster home. Cole has found his forever home in Union City. Happy New Year Cole!

Mona (updated 1.6.11)

Picture
Mona is a sweetheart 1 year old pit mix rescued just in time from the Shafter shelter due to overcrowding. She is full grown and weighs 36 lbs. She is a huge lovebug and loves to be pet and showered with affection. She gets along excellent with all dogs and does not bother cats. She likes to play with toys but would rather have one on one time with you. Mona is perfectly behaved when you take her food and toys away, and has a very gentle mouth when taking treats. She is a huge lover and gives tons of kisses. She likes to curl up in your lap and rest her head on your shoulder. Mona is learning to walk on leash but needs extra encouragement on a noisy bustling street-- in time she'll gain confidence. She is taking to crate training well. Here is Mona playing with the dog in her foster home: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zS5Ux9Cpzzw. Check out how submissive and sweet she is in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4gVS2y5MgM. Mona now lives in San Francisco with two older doggie siblings and a loving mom.

Misty (updated 1.4.11)

Picture
Misty is an adorable 2 month old little jack russell terrier mix. She has a scruffy coat and big personality. This little one has no fear and will gladly greet any human or dog she comes across. She is a fun little girl looking for the right home to help her grow into a smart and proper lady. She can play fetch too - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFg4xY6N-eo. If you are interested in meeting her please submit an application. Misty's new life is taking off in San Ramon with her older sister Sunshine to show her the ropes.

Holly (adopted 12.31.10)

Picture
Holly is an itty bitty 4 month old long haired chihuahua mix. She is one happy playful girl who loves all people and other dogs, as long as they are not too rough for her. She is very outgoing and loves attention. Since Holly is still so young she is not the best on leash yet and will also need basic training to become an outstanding little lady. Training shouldn't be too hard, since she is very eager to please. Holly was adopted by her foster and is now living in Daly City.

Amelia (adopted 12.30.10)

Picture
Amelia is a 4 month old lab/shar pei mix rescued from Merced. She is a sweet girl who loves affection and likes to play. She does take the submissive role during play. She walks fairly well on leash and has been doing very well in her crate for quiet time. It seems she would be fine with cats as well, check her out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmb8j9ubRw8. Sweet Amelia was adopted by her foster family and is now living in Napa with two other dogs.

Vida (adopted 12.30.10)

Picture
Vida was rescued unknowingly pregnant and successfully weaned three adorable puppies. She is an adult black lab mix, possibly around 2 years old, who was rescued from the Central Valley. Her name couldn't describe her any better, this sweet playful girl is just full of LIFE. She gets along well with other dogs, loves, loves people and even passed her cat test. She was more interested in food than any cat or kitten around. She does great with children as well, although she can be an energetic girl at times. She has lived with an infant, a toddler and two cats and been great with all. Regular exercise and stimulation would be needed for this sweet pup. Vida was adopted by her newest foster family in the East Bay and is living with two young boys.

Gaston (adopted 12.18.10)

Picture
Gaston is one handsome fellow at only 7 months old. Although labeled solely as a pit mix at the shelter, it is clear he is much, much more. He is possibly mixed with Weimaraner or lab. He has beautiful amber eyes with thick black eye-liner and a gorgeous smooth tan coat. Gaston is a friendly guy with a very sweet temperament. He is probably one of the calmest and most gentle loving 7-month old pups we have seen. He wants to play with other dogs and takes a submissive role. He's a smart boy, responding well to correction and is already doing a great job with "sit" and "down." He was tolerant of his bath and calmly melted into the floor when he was dried off with the towel. While he is very playful guy, he loves affection and finding his way into your lap to give you kisses. He loves his belly stroked, too, going completely still to bask in the attention. He has so far shown only a passing interest in cats and his body language has read "play" in these instances. Gaston has also done well riding in the car. Gaston now has a family to call his own in San Francisco, where he'll be living with two cats and a young boy.

Po (adopted 12.13.10)

Picture
Po is an adorable shepherd mix from the streets of Taiwan. He was found with a head injury when he was only about 2 months old. He was one of the lucky ones who was taken in and given all the medical attention he needed. He is currently about 8 months now, healthy and happy and has been in the shelter way too long. He is a playful pup who enjoys the company of other dogs and people. Po is an amazingly sweet guy who loves to cuddle. He is extremely well adjusted, knows sit and seems to be house trained. This guy has loads of personality and will keep you laughing. Sweet Po has found his forever home in Mill Valley.

Anna (adopted 12.12.10)

Picture
Anna is about 5/6 months old and was labeled at the shelter as a black lab mix, but that may be way off. Her petite frame and bubbly personality and very much that of a terrier mix. Possibly Jack Russell or Chihuahua, as she is currently under 20lbs. She also has a cute 3/4 length tail. She is a sweet girl, not to mention adorable. She gets along just fine with other dogs, both big and small and loves to snuggle up close to anyone who lets her. She also does fine with cats. Anna was adopted by a family in Los Altos and will have lots of fun playing with two young children in her new home.
