Copper’s Dream runs the Foster Care Program for dogs that are rescued from being euthanized. I understand fully that this/these dog(s) is just temporarily in my care and belongs exclusively to Copper’s Dream. I further understand that the purpose of this foster relationship is solely to provide temporary care for this/these dog(s). Any determination made about this/these dog(s) must be approved by the designated staff at Copper’s Dream.
Please take a moment to review the policies of Copper’s Dream Rescue

Veterinary Care Policy: As a nonprofit rescue, Copper’s Dream has a very limited budget.  As a result, we only provide veterinary care for conditions that appear to be serious or life threatening that we deem is ethically necessary.  To determine whether treatment is ethically necessary, Copper’s Dream will weigh the prospects of recovery with the costs of treatment.  Copper’s Dream reserves the right to make all decisions regarding whether a condition is considered life threatening and/ or ethically necessary.  Foster families who disagree with the decisions of our directors always have the option of paying medical expenses themselves. For minor conditions that are not life threatening, we typically give animals some time to recover on their own.  Please keep in mind that many shelter animals come to us with kennel cough or skin irritations that subside when they are given high quality food, rest, and love.

Off-Leash Policy: Copper’s Dream has a strict policy that rescue dogs may not be let off-leash in an unfenced area during the duration of the foster arrangement. Copper's Dream Rescue does not recommend taking foster dogs to dog parks.  Any foster that takes a foster dog to a dog park, does so solely at their own risk and liability.

Training: We encourage foster families to train their rescue animals. Foster families who have never trained an animal before can read through our “Resources” section on our website. The Copper’s Dream team is also always available to give advice or answer questions.

Animal Return Policy: If you feel the need to return your rescue dog at any time, Copper’s Dream Rescue will immediately try to make arrangements to transfer your dog to a different foster.  However, we cannot guarantee that this transfer will take place within a certain amount of time – it may take up to several weeks to arrange for a transfer.  Note that the foster arrangement ends only when the new adopter’s one week trial period ends.  If adopters return your foster dog within the first week, you are responsible for receiving the dog back into your care.  On the other hand, foster families that have informed us ahead of time that they must stop fostering on a particular date can be assured that we have prepared in advance for a transfer by that date.

Release of Liability: Copper’s Dream makes every effort to communicate breed, age, health and behavior information about each rescue animal accurately.  However, our staff and volunteers are not animal experts, and we do not conduct our own health and behavior evaluations upon receiving an animal from the shelter.  We rely almost entirely on the evaluations conducted at shelters, which may or may not be done by professionals.  As a result, we require foster families to release us of all liability resulting from any wrong or incomplete information they may receive about a particular animal.
Dogs may act unpredictably when scared or in new situations and should always be introduced to adults cautiously.  Do not introduce rescue dogs to children or cats without having a conversation with a Copper’s Dream director beforehand.
Foster families must release Copper’s Dream of all liability for any injuries or accidents that result from their rescue dog and also accept liability for any incidents that arise out of introductions of rescue animals to third parties.  Copper’s Dream does not require foster families to socialize dogs with people outside of their immediate family, and any decision to do so must be taken solely at the risk of the foster family.

Dogs may act unpredictably when scared or in new situations and should always be introduced to adults cautiously.  Do not introduce rescue dogs to children or cats without having a conversation with a Copper’s Dream director beforehand.   Copper’s Dream does not require foster, foster-to-adopt, or adopting families to socialize dogs with people or animals outside of their immediate family, and any decision to do so must be taken solely at the risk of the fostering/fostering-to-adopt/adopting family.
All fostering, fostering-to-adopt or adopting families must also assume all risks associated with having an animal in their home and/or introducing their rescue animals to third parties. Fostering, fostering-to-adopt, and adoptive families must release Copper’s Dream of all liability for any injuries or accidents that result from their rescue dog and also accept liability for any incidents that arise out of introductions of rescue animals to third parties.  Copper’s Dream recommends that new families wait until they have become very familiar with their new pet and its temperament before attempting any introductions to people or animals outside of their immediate family.
